I'm trying to write the discrete power on and off commands for an Optoma HD8300 projector in RTI but I'm having difficulty getting it to work. Here is the Optoma spec sheet [Link: optomausa.com]

By this logic I've tried several variations

~00001
~00001 \n
~0000 1
~0000 1 \n

(\n is the carriage return in RTI)

Im using 9600, none, 8, 1 for the protocol.

Anyone have any suggestions or the codes already built?

Thanks,

How far is the run from the processor to the projector?  Have you tried a null modem cable?  Have you tried using a terminal emulator to enter the commands directly instead?  From looking at the projector documentation, you need a null-modem adapter or cable.

Im using cat 5 with the RTI serial adapter (both ends 568B) and a null serial gender changer.

So am I to understand that my efforts are the correct code should be just as simple as I thought?

RS-232 has a distance limitiation, btw 50'-100', did you try the terminal approach?

my distance is probably less than 30'.

I haven't tried terminal.

as far as I can tell from the protocol, your code should be:

~00001/r

( /r is the carriage return for RTI as far as I know )

it is always good practice to test your codes using a terminal program like hyperterminal or crestron's viewport to test your codes with a known good cable.

it may also be a good idea to test without the null adapter.

You need to send this for power ON:

~0000 1\r

Note the space after the 0000

Sometimes (on other models) you need to change the projector ID to 1.

If so then try sending:
~0100 1\r

If that does not work then try this:
\x7E0000 1 \r

The \x7e is the HEX version of sending ~. Some controllers will not understand the ASCII text for special characters.
I do not use RTI but the above is what should be required.

NOTE...
In a very small number of cases the Optoma will only turn ON with the following command:

OKOKOKOKOK
or
OKOKOKOKOK \r

All other commands will work as described in the manual. It is something to do with power saving and using a different circuit for power ON.
