as far as I can tell from the protocol, your code should be:
~00001/r
( /r is the carriage return for RTI as far as I know )
it is always good practice to test your codes using a terminal program like hyperterminal or crestron's viewport to test your codes with a known good cable.
it may also be a good idea to test without the null adapter.
