What X-10 products do I need to have full control through my Pronto TSU2000 remote? I have ordered an IR 543 and it is still on back order. Is there another product that is more readily available that can do the same thing as the 543? How do I program IR codes into my Pronto that the X10 modules will understand. Anyone know where I can get a low priced IR extender (pyramid). So far I have been shopping through www.homecontrols.com is there another site I should check. Thank you.

Buy the powermid from www.x10.com. they are offering a US$20 instant rebate so it will cost you $20 rather than $40. This sale ends soon, but they have them every 3 weeks or so. also, with each item you get a free gift (buy 3 items get 3 free gifts).
You can get the IR543 from the Canadian site www.x10.ca

It costs CA34.29 so that's about US$22. I had it in 4 days.

I do not know the pronto well, but I believe that you can download the codes from your PC to it. Otherwise you will need an X-10 remote that you will use to teach your pronto. You can get this remote FREE right now from X-10 when you order the powermid. Just tell them you want the FREE 6 in 1 remote rather than the slimfire remote.

Smarthome.com has the 4040 X10 command console for $29.99. This can be used as well.

4040 is Smarhome's designation for the IR543. Not only do you get a fancy new stock number but you also get to pay an extra $10 for it.

If you goto the smarthome web page to where the 4040 X10 comand console is they have the cfc's for the pronto that you can download and install to your pronto via pronto edit without having to teach the pronto. It put the X10 interface on the pronto with dim bright all on all off etc.....

But I thought 6 in 1 remote transmits RF for X10 and Ir for other devices, meaning there is no IR signal to record on Pronto, am I wrong?

You can setup the 6 in 1 remote, to control X-10 via RF or IR, but not both at the same time. As I recall, setup codes 013 and 014 are for RF and IR, respectively. This is in the manual BTW.

Thanks , I'll look it up- since it was otherwise useless remote i just glanced over the manual and added it to the piles of other useless junk. I might dig it out though.

I see that the powermid is mainly used for converting IR to RF then back to IR again. Are you saying that it can ALSO be used to convert IR to RF only? I have a OneForAll remote control (IR only) that has codes to control X-10. If I use the powermid, will I be able to control my lights/appliances and such with the OneForAll remote???

I have my pronto controling 8 different lights thru ir543. If you plan to use pronto to control your lights or any other x10 module u could down load a x10 key pad from the pronto forum. If you want I will e-mail you a key pad from my ccf file.

Normally you'd only have like 7 or so functions with X-10 (for every IR543 that you bought), but if you are running a Houselink or something on the computer that does things in response to an X-10 command, you can actual expand your number of functions by looking for specific states (A1 on, A1 off, A1 dim, A1 bright, etc).

Why would you be limited to sevent functions? The only limit with the IR543 is that you're limited to a single house code but you can send all standard X10 codes to all 16 unit codes.

Larry,

How do you get an IR543 to send out unit codes 11-16? As discussed in a different thread here, punching in 1-2 "on", 1-3 "off" etc, will not send out unit code 12 or 13. It will send out 1 "on", 2 "on" in the first case and 1 "off", 3 "off" in the second case. "0" can be used to control unit code 10, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get unit codes 11-16. There was some discussion about whether the FF, REW, PLAY, STOP, PAUSE, REC keys would control unit codes 11-16. It doesn't do that with any of the X-10 IR remotes that I have. Maybe the Pronto with the .ccf for X-10 control would be able to send out unit codes 11-16. Anyone try that?

There is a company in the U.K. that modifies a standard IR543 to work on all housecodes and one side benefit of that, is access to unit codes 11-16. It appears that they have re-written the PIC firmware in the IR543 and added IR codes for 11-16, in addition to all house code support. They have Pronto .ccf files specific for their modified IR543AH.

The IR 543 can send out 11-16 if sent to it vi IR. Remotes like X10s super remotes that come in the Activehome kit and what they often pawn off as "free gifts" Does not have the IR functions for those numbers. If you're using a Pronto you just need the CCF file which should have all the Unit codes inplace.

http://www.smarthome.com has a wonderful price match program. Just call them during Business hours and tell them where you found it. That way you can thank Bill for his prices then get it from a company who will support you.
