The powermid is moree of a pain in the neck. If you have a lot of electronics in the are you are using it you get so much feedback that sometimes it does not work. I have founf the Leapfrog to be the best IR extnder. Uses phone lines for the extension instead of RF.

Just thought I'd note that to get the Pronto cfc file for the 4040 controller at Smarthome.com you need to go to the page for the Pronto, not the page for the 4040. Link below:

I am trying to create a macro for my lighting without the use of a remote control. I just got an IR 543 for my X-10 lighting and downloaded some of the files off the files section. The question is: Can I copy codes from existing buttons and paste them onto to a macro button. I am trying to add multiple Light On commands to one button, for an ALL ON affect. Thanks for the help!

FYI: I FINALLY got my IR 543 from homecontrols.com and they have more in stock. But make sure they charge you 19.95. They tried bumping up the price to $29.95.

Pronto Users: - You can control all 16 devices from the pronto, download some of the CCF's from the pronto forum and test them out. I control 3 lights in my lounge and several other switching devices including my blinds with the Pronto - IR543 - X10 combinations.

You can also have as many commands as you want on one button, every button can be a macro, you can either copy and past codes into the button or alias other buttons into your button. Aliasing uses less memory of course.

The CCF's include discrete on/off, dim/bright, all-on all-off and some whacky sliders for dim/bright.

The only problem that I have is the distance that the X10 travels around the house, basically it won't leave my lounge.

Craig: if you were using the CCF's from the Pronto forum, were you able to create scenes using multiple button codes onto a macro you designated? If so, how? I don't have the 6 in 1 remote yet to program the macros myself, so I have been using the seperate codes provided by Chris Couture. What I want to do is get an On/Off/Dim code for lights 1,2, and 6. as well as 3 & 4, and 2&6. All House code A. Thanks

That's the only problem with the X10 modules, no preset dimmers, only full on at first power up. Not very pretty as I have 2x 150W uplighters, When they are full on the room is very bright. Maybe in the future I will invest in some with the memory option for setting preset scenes like the Lutrons.

Still I'm very happy with the X10 functionality in general when coupled with the pronto.

Craig,

You can get scene capabilities for far less than the Lutron products.

Surprised Larry did'nt mention it but he (and I) use PCS smartswitches. They have been discussed extentsively on this forum. Do a search for "PCS" for a lot of info ablut them. You can get them at http://www.homeautomationnet.com

Are the PCS devices available in the UK?

We pay a premium for X10 products here, £25 for a dimmer pack (about $40),

Which is ridiculous if you have to buy 6 or seven of them.

I don't think PCS makes a 240v version but maybe they will someday.

I keep forgetting who's in the US and who's in Europe around here so my replies almost always assume that I'm talking to someone in the US unless they've mentioned otherwise.

That's part of the reason why I have the "in TN" in my screen name. Would the average person from Europe know that "TN" stands for Tennessee?

Nope, TN could stand for anything as far as I'm concerned...(no offence). It probably depends on how familiar folk from other countries are with the states.

I've never seen PCS products advertised in the UK or I would have probably investigated them by now. We seem to be stuck with the standard clunky dimmers and switches that stick out so far from the wall that they look awful.

I think if you want to do this job properly, you need to start from scratch and rewire your property with a star configuration from the distro box and have the DIN rail at that point with all of the dimmers and switches installed, this goes against all the UK conventions of ring mains for UK homes.

Maybe next time I move I'll do the network and power at the same time.
