Wow RTI installer. I always thought you were a little strange, but to charge fellow installers $16-$36 for info on how to modify the IRF-6 for better range is crap. Why don't you put this in the marketplace forum instead of spamming your fellow installers.

Because
#1 I have spent 100s of hours figuring out how to solve this problem,

#2 I had to put the instructions into such a format that keeps the non-technical person from destroying their modules for lack of proper technique.

#3 I had to create the instructions build and maintain a web site for people to go to download the instructions and so on and so forth.

#4 I am operating this whole adventure as a public service and I might add at a complete loss of revenue.

Which brings us to

#5 I am charging a pittance to just help with my costs. Further, I will probably never recoup any real money on this adventure

Finally, I receive no compensation from RTI, Further, the remote and module retail for nearly $1000.00. Anyone who would complain about spending $15 and change to make a $1000.00 device work better, well you don’t want to know what I think.

As far $36.00 goes, I have to get the parts, make the cable, package everything up real neat, drive to the ups store, fill out the UPS forms. Considering I charge $55.00 an hour and up on my day job, I think $36.00 is a bargain.

So Please cut me some slack OK!

Oh and if you check McNasty's bio out, all it says is Pronto TS 1000
ProntoPro TSU6000
Pronto NG TSU3000

He/she is a huge pronto advocate and really not very fond of RTI products. Why he/she has decided to pick on the RTI forum today is anyone’s guess. But for certain expect him/her to be back with more personal attacks in this and other forums.

Hey RTI installer, first of all I didn't notice you sent parts for the $36, I thought it was just hard copy instructions. Second of all, I understand that you spend lots of time working on this, because frankly the range on the remote sucks more than a top of the line Hoover. So does the Prontos RF extender. I list the Prontos in my profile because that is what I personally own in my own home. I used to program Prontos with my previous company and at the time I program RTI T2's as well as a REAL contol system...Crestron. I will be the first to say I'm not fond of RTI remotes. Why? Frankly because they aren't reliable. They would be outstanding if they didn't have so many problems such as sticking buttons, touchscreens loosing sensitivity, and horrible range. I know what you're going to say because I've read your posts about how you've fixed the stuck button issue, how you've fixed screen issues by wedging paper between the screen and the case, and how now you're fixing the range with these new mods. I think that's cool, but I'll be damned if I spend as much time as you doing that for a remote that costs $1000. If RTI won't do it then you need to find another product. After spending a few hours pulling apart four T2s that were less than a year old and in for service, I managed to swap parts and get 2 fully working units. I also managed to convince my boss that it's time to find another remote to sell our clients. You're one to talk about advocating one brand and not being fond of others. All you talk about is RTI's...get a life dude. All I was saying is that in this proffession we often trade tech tips...we don't sell them, and that the proper place for sales pitches here are in the marketplace forum.

You truly are an ass. It's "He" by the way...and it wasn't a personal attack. I was in this forum because I program these remotes and figured I could learn some information as well as give some. I've been here before. Did you also notice in my profile that I have almost 1,000 more posts than you? That's because I help people out. Out of all of those posts, maybe 10-15 were negative towards people.

I am a him also.

I personally am not very fond of, prontos, home theater master or harmony remotes, so I do not offer them to my customers. I have stayed with RTI because there really is not anything else out there in this price range that can truly be tailored to fit the needs of the customers I work with. Sure they have been problematic in the past, and I would rather not have to deal with modifying them, but it’s a small price to pay for the end result.

“I always thought you were a little strange”

“spamming your fellow installers.”

“All you talk about is RTI's...get a life dude.”

So what is your definition of a personal attack?

Further, since I have 2 year old twins, and a disable wife to take care of not to mention running a full time business, I can only answer as many questions as I have the time to do so. I do not see it as any type of competition. I am doing what I do to help those who want help, I am not forcing (spamming) anything down anyone’s neck. People ask and I answer. I receive a great many emails by people who want an IR code, or help using the program manager, or info on the new Sonance stuff, I do my best to provide for those needs, I don’t ask for anything and as I have stated before, I am operating the mod instructions program at a loss. I am just here trying to help people and you come in here spiting fire and smoke, the high school bully looking for a place to hang his shingle. You could have just said gee RTI Installer, why are you charging people for the instructions?

Get over it, move on, life is short, sell and install what you want and I will do the same.

The only remark I made in your quotes in the original post was "I always thought you were a little strange", it it was a little thing called sarcasm. The other quotes were made after you talked crap about me in your response. I have no problem with your love for RTI remotes. This was all about selling tech tips, and you made it more. I also pointed out the amount of my posts to just show you that I am very helpful here, and do get off on bitching at people. All I was saying is that there is a place here for sales pitches, and I'm sure Daniel would 100% agree. Nuff said.

Well... Its pretty common knowledge here that I'm not a huge RTI fan, But I do sell and program them from time to time.

I find nothing wrong with the original post..... ANd I certainly dont find anything wrong with charging $15-$36 for the parts and/or info on this modification.

Its a Bargain if it works.... And Posting this in the marketplace forum would NOT get the information to the right people on this board. I see no problem with the location of the post.

ANd I guess that since I have more posts than McNasty my opinion means more........ 8)

Damn...You got me there...LOL..How many times I posted means nothing, I was just trying to point out that I post a lot to try to help people out, not just to rip into them. It just rubbed me the wrong way from the way it was posted. If it said "IRF-6 mod now available for $15" then I wouldn't have said anything other than recommending it go to the marketplace forum. But to get all excited to see a mod for it and then go to the link and see a price kinda rubbed me wrong. I will actually probably buy the info from RTI Installer, I just didn't think it was the right way to advertise it here.
