For some dumb reasons that I would rather not go into here, I have a Bose Lifestyle 50 Home Theatre system with my Mitz 65 HD TV and 3 sat receivers(Tivo, RCA-480, and Sony Hd-100), DVD player and VCR. I run a MX-500 and am very happy with its performance. However this IR unit will not handle Bose's RF only(why in God's name they in their 3,500.00 unit could not have given your RF and IR both as RCA does in their 200 dollar sat receivers is another question)device so I am forced to use their RF remote as an adjunct to my MX-500 which is a pain.

I looked as some old posts on this topic and it looks like I am out of luck, but thought that some clever mind out their had figured how to convert an IR signal thru some device to RF so that the Bose could understand. Why they feel they need to speak swaili(sp) when everyone else speaks English in this country only they know.

My All in One Home producer 8(which I had before the MX-500 and still think is a very good unit)has a neat feature that will RF a signal to another room where they have a RF receiver that converts to IR for controlling your devices remotely. Works very well if the distance are not too far.

R.S., Welcome to why many speak poorly of Dr. Bose and his made-to-stand-alone-and-not-integrate-with-everybody-else's-equipment world. My sister wouldn't listen to me, either, and now wonders why her system doesn't sound as good as mine.

*Nods at Larry*

They have a saying.. "No Highs, No Lows.. Must Be Bose"

Dr.Bose can keep his acoustical wave guide sewer pipes
and paper cone speakers. I think I will stick with my
Titanium and Magnesium Alloy speakers :)

I said it before, One of my car's has Bose audio in it
and for a 50K car it should sound a whole lot better.
It just sounds "decent" some of the Infinity systems
sound "Spectacular".

And when you go to upgrade that Bose system in this car
you run into the same "not easily changed" philosophy!

Alright I will confess. The unmentioned reason that I bought this unit for my family room is my wife threatened to give me a Chinese haircut if I put a bunch of electronic stuff in our family room with big speakers and all that goes with them. I already filled my TV room up with the good stuff. So the tiny Bose jewel cubes saved my family jewels. I could go on for several pages regarding the downside of their product besides fidelity like no optical inputs for dobly digital(I had to buy an Audio Authority optical to coax adapter for my devices that have dolby digital outputs(they are all optical), no component switching for video so that if you have multiple progressive component inputs(like my progressive scan DVD and HD-100 HD sat reciever(another piece of work)and a Sony TV with only a single progressive input you end up switching cables from one to the other. Any other high priced receiver would takecare of this. The remote is really poor as is RF only, the price is high, the cd player is 1990 level technology(why not DVD for this price, who Knows?), NO DTS support, medicore sound quality, all devices in general must go into your tv then using varible audio out to the Bose so that you are not continually switching remotes when changing sources such as DVD, HD sat, Tivo, etc. etc. You need more??????? But again it is small and I still have my manhood.

Well well well, looks like Bose has pleased another woman, I also have high quality equipment as many of you do, and also have a Bose Ls 50 II, and I see this product as a system that is for the irritated women of the house.
I know they have a lot of downsides, but I also seemed to find my self in rschaaf's position.(please explain your name, makes no sense to me)
Anyway, have fun finding some innovative product to modify the remotes capability, I know I hadn't been able to find anything...
Ciao & Good luck!

Hey, C.I., my guess is that the name is R. Schaaf. Want to make a bet before R. responds?

How long have you had the LS50? There is a 90 satisfation guarantee & you can return it for another unit or refund within that time frame.

BTW.. The new Bose Lifestyle systems (28 & 35) NOW do RF & IR! They will control other components as well with the one remote. IR codes to operate Bose System are now available.

Other features:

- Dolby Digital 5.1
- DTS
- Videostage 5 (aka Prologic II)
- Optical Digital inputs
- Coaxial Digital inputs
- IR Blaster included
- EMF sensor included to sense if TV is on or off & control it accordingly
- New Accoustimass Bass Module that produces DEEPER bass
- Media center will play DVD, DVD ROM, CD, CDR, CDRW, MP3 & is firmware upgradeable

Just FYI!

Some of the new Home-Theaters-In-A-Box from various manufacturers seem to have the "small size, decent technology" quotent. :-)

Yes, it is!

BTW the Wave Guide (or your version: acoustical wave guide sewer pipes) is NOT utilized in the Acoustimass module, JUST the Wave Products! It uses the same principal as a flute (wave resonance) to amplify the sound.

I'm getting off track here though, as rschaaf was discussing his Lifestyle system, not wave products! :)

Rschaaf, you may have a solution soon for your PMC remote & IR... hang in there!

They are already out! Have been shipping since the 1st with the exception of the 321. They started last week. Retailers may be holding back & trying to sell through the last remaining Lifestyle 25 & 30 systems.

If you want to see some details, click on the following links:

Thanks Sonicflood
They dont realy tell you much about the damn system, just thats its easy and improved, I mean yeish, no specs once again, and dont say anything about sized of the cones in the bas module, neither the material that they are made of.
I emailed them and asked a heap of questions, hahaha
If they anything interesting, I shall tell you, I doubt it though, they are real tight ass'.

I'd be willing to bet the specs don't exactly complement the systems, new or old.
