I have a question about Dish Network's dual tuner receivers.

I know that if the correct switch is used, a Dish Pro Plus separator can be used to run both tuners of the receiver off of one RG6. I also know that a diplexer could be used to backfeed the modulated feed for the second TV into the existing wiring.

My question: Can I use a Dish Pro Plus separator and a diplexer together? What I want to do is place a dual tuner receiver in a location in which there is only one RG6 going there, and it is next to impossible to run another. I'd like to run both of the tuners off of the one RG6 using the Dish Pro Plus technology and then use that same RG6 to backfeed the output to the 2nd TV. Something like this:

I'm not a Dish Network guy, but if the Dish Pro Plus Separator will work as your diagram shows it, the only thing that could get in the way of the whole thing working would be signals from the dish that are in the frequency range of the TV channels. And you have already said that you know you can backfeed the channel 3/4 output as shown.

This should work fine.

It also is a pretty clever idea because it runs signals both ways on a wire, which is totally possible but not at all intuitive. We tend to think of all signals going from A to B, not one from A to B and one from B to A. The different frequency ranges of the signals makes this possible.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I've never been real enamored of that idea of having the dish send to a second TV over RF. I don't know why. But I really like using the dual tuner DVR on one TV. I know the dual can run off one RG6 because that's how mine is hooked up. If you want a switch number I can crawl back there and get it for you. As far as that whole backfeed thing... I'm clueless. I put a second receiver in my bedroom... actually it's a single tuner DVR. When we go to HD service I can switch out the bedroom receiver and have HD there as well. If I had used the second TV output of the dual tuner, I wouldn't get HD in the bedroom because TV2 through RF is SD only even on the dual tuner HD receivers. (why did someone think that was a good idea?).

If you want a second receiver for TV2 I'm sure I have at least one receiver (used) in the basement that was deactivated when we put the single tuner DVR in the bedroom.

They won't be DVR's, nor will they be HD. It's for some older family members who have four TV's.

By going with dual tuner recievers, they pay only an extra $5 per month compared to the $15 they'd pay with all single tuners, as strangely enough Dish charges the same to lease a dual tuner reciever as they do a single tuner reciever.

The house is from the early 60's, and has one RG6 going from a central location to each TV location. One of the locations is above the basement, so I can run new cables there, but all of the other locations are located over solid concrete. I can't run new cables (feasably) so I'm going to attempt this. This way I can run the dual tuner reciever off of only one RG6!

Of course, I have to run that all by the "installer" (note the quotes). Dish won't let me install it, and the CI I know doesn't do Dish. He won't be actually installing anything though. He can watch me if he wants.

OK. I didn't know the dual tuner came in a non-DVR model. If you change your mind and want to buy a single dishnetwork tuner off me used for about $10 (or less if you haggle... hehehe) let me know. These are legitimate tuners with cards ... not sure if the cards need replacing, but I think I did that already. I gave one to a friend and he had no trouble at all activating it with the card that's in it. The offer's out there if you need it.

This occurred to me as the perfect solution for a client some four or five years ago. It worked from the start and is still working to this day. Technically, it's no different from diplexing antenna or cable with a satellite signal.
