I, alone, am not afraid of the pox. Teresa, I hope you and your Pace box coexist for the next hundred years. To hell with the pox! Here Here!

Just recently switched to NTL digital and have been reading this thread and now thoroughly depresssed. I am in an ex-C&W area so seems no hope. I phoned NTL and they said new box (di400) was being trialled but no idea when it would be released and suggested i phone on a monthly basis. I now know from reading this forum that i will be forever stalled. But I work with someone who has the newer box which is compatible and wondered what you guys think of this idea and whether it would work;

What if we swapped boxes? would it work? would it simply be a case of unplugging an replugging? if so could he then break his box (as he may get a pronto)and get it replaced as he would no doubt get the same version and everyone would be happy?

what do you think?

Mark,

The only circumstances I could see this being successful is if your friend:-

a)Lives in an ex C&W area like you, and:-

b)Has been higly fortunate and obtained a new pace box [Link: pace.co.uk] that i'm assuming (and it's a big assumtion!) was designed for the unified NTL/C&W platform that was recently announced (here [Link: ntl.com] and:-

c)if the new box is compatible with the Pronto.

Of course I could be wrong about a new box - NTL may just decide to roll out the diTV100 to original NTL areas because it already features the liberate/DOCSIS combo talked about in the press release.

The worst case scenario seems to be the enitre UK being left with cable STB's lacking learning remote compatibility.

We could all doomed!

P.S Rather than going to all that hassle I'd try and nail down which STB model that NTL are going to be using the future in your area - then you can check directly with Pace to se if it's compatible.

Hope this question isn't too off-topic.

I have just 'upgraded' to Telewest's Digital service and also cannot use my Pronto to control the new cable box. That I can live with (begrudingly).

I also have a Response-brand video sender to beam the video/audio cable-box output to the bedroom TV and 'beam' the IR signals back to the cable box.

The Response Video Sender cannot relay the Pace/Telewest signals back to the box - which defeats the object.

Does anyone know of an IR extender (either built into a video sender or separately) that can cope with Pace/Telewest's IrDA's signals?

Thanks

Any views on whether the new Pronto TSU2000 may offer some hope?

As mentioned in an earlier post, this problem does not only affect Pronto/Marantz owners. I have a touchscreen remote, the Smart aka UCommand 616 and unfortunately own a PACE digital STB provided by NTL.
I have tried contacting NTL with the usual hilarious results.....I realise that I must have the D1000T STB that uses IRDA but unfortunately I cannot find this model number anywhere on the machine. Does anyone know a way to tell whether an STB is the D14001/D14100 version so that I can try again to get one from NTL.
Alternatively, Are there any owners of the D14001/D14100 that would be willing to try my remote on their machines?
If so please Email me direct. Thanks

Sorry to breathe new life into this thread again but....

Has anyone tried the Homevision home automation controller? I was looking at the on-line manual and it states that its capable of transmitting carrier free infra-red. Im sure that on of the problems the pronto was having was that IRDA was carrier free. (This thread has gotten very long though so I may be mistaken!)

Any thoughts?
