i am currently using canon vcc3 cameras throught my business. the problem that i am having is that my employees adjust the brightness and use various other buttons that i have told them repeatedly not to touch. i am looking for a remote that will limit them to only a few functions such as zoom in, zoom out, left, right, up, and down. i am looking for 30-40 such remotes. if anyone could help... it would be great.
thanks... david

You could get a simple learning remote and only learn the buttons that you need. It sounds like the 15-1993 remote drom Radio Shack would suit your purposes.

It doesn't have menu arrow buttons, but a simple workaround would be to learn the arrows to the number keys (ie, 2=up, 4=left, 5=select, 6=right, 8=down). You could learn zoom in and out to the vol up and down buttons.

The remote is $30 ful price and $20 when on sale. It's not on sale at the moment, so you might as well get the really popular 15-1994 which is on sale for $30.

My Sony Hi-8 video camera came with a small remote that was limited to the most basic functions including zoom in/out, REC, and VCR transport funtions. It turned out that it would also control another sony camera I had that did not come with it's own remote.

I'm assuming your cameras ARE remote controllable. If so, check canon's product line for a simpler camera with a simpler remote. That remote may well work their more complicated cameras too. I know I can buy the sony camera remote alone. You should be able to buy any canon camera remote alone too, in whatever quantity you need.

Also, look over OneForALL's complete product line. Surely they have a one or two device remote with learning ability. If they don't, they should. Every motel room I've ever been in could use one.

After looking up your camera on canon's site, I have a better understanding of what it is and your problem is.

I recommend getting oneforall cinema6 (6800)learning remotes. They can be found at WalMart and Sears, and possible best buy and circuit city. Cheap.

If you have a small number of commands you want available to your employees, these remotes can be taught only those. The Cinema6 has a directional cluster, VCR transport keys, number pad, 4 "L" keys, and two labelled macro keys. Since they can learn to almost any key, you can decide which keys make the most sense for your camera controls. With 6 potential device settings, you may be able to program one remote to control up to 6 of your cameras.

Hope this helps.

Dave
