After looking up your camera on canon's site, I have a better understanding of what it is and your problem is.
I recommend getting oneforall cinema6 (6800)learning remotes. They can be found at WalMart and Sears, and possible best buy and circuit city. Cheap.
If you have a small number of commands you want available to your employees, these remotes can be taught only those. The Cinema6 has a directional cluster, VCR transport keys, number pad, 4 "L" keys, and two labelled macro keys. Since they can learn to almost any key, you can decide which keys make the most sense for your camera controls. With 6 potential device settings, you may be able to program one remote to control up to 6 of your cameras.
