You could get a simple learning remote and only learn the buttons that you need. It sounds like the 15-1993 remote drom Radio Shack would suit your purposes.

It doesn't have menu arrow buttons, but a simple workaround would be to learn the arrows to the number keys (ie, 2=up, 4=left, 5=select, 6=right, 8=down). You could learn zoom in and out to the vol up and down buttons.

The remote is $30 ful price and $20 when on sale. It's not on sale at the moment, so you might as well get the really popular 15-1994 which is on sale for $30.
