Aloha,
I have an old URC-4063B06 which works fine with my Jerrold Impulse analog cable box. I just picked up a 6012W and got it to work with everything else (Sony vcr, Panasonic dvd, Kenwood receiver, Mitsubishi tv) but it won't take any of the Jerrold codes that came with the manual.

I tried all the codes listed for Jerrold and General Instruments and still no go.

The code that works with the 4063 is 003. I thought the 6012 might like 0003, but when I try that one, I don't get the two blink showing its a valid code, but rather one steady.

So, my questions are: Is it broke? or is that cable box to ancient for the remote to control it? Can I "teach" the new one directly from the old one? If this remote will not control the box, can you recommend an OFA that will (5 device+)?

Much thanks,
eKennedy

The 6012 is not a learning remote, the 8811, 8910, 9910 are learning remotes.

So what do you think about the box then? Should the 6012 be able to control it, if the 4063 could?

Should I just go buy a new remote?

Thanks,
eKennedy

There is only a limited amout of memory in these remotes for setup codes, so as new codes are added, old ones get dropped. I just checked my files and CBL/0003 has indeed been dropped from the URC-6012 and most other new remotes.

You could send your 6012 back to One For All and they will add the code for you if you like. OTherwise, you could get a learning remote and learn from the other remote.

Are you saying the 6012 is sold as upgradeable?

That would mean OFA must solder on the EEPROM (and probably the JP1 connector as well) if you send the remote in for an upgrade.

Just as a follow-up, I called OFA customer service who confirmed that the 003 code was, in fact, removed from the 6012.

So, I went out and got a 8910 from Circuit City with the intention of having it learn the 003 buttons. To my surprise, the 8910 took the 0003 code no problem, and I'm all set now.

Thanks for your replies.

UEI actually has a small number of 6012s with EEPROMs already soldered into place for this purpose, but as you can see from eKennedy's posts, people would rather go out and buy a $50 remote than have a $15 remote upgraded, so they probably won't need that many of them, but it is a useful service for people who want a JP1 compatible URC-6012w but don't want to do the soldering themselves.
