Are you saying the 6012 is sold as upgradeable?
That would mean OFA must solder on the EEPROM
(and probably the JP1 connector as well) if you
send the remote in for an upgrade.
UEI actually has a small number of 6012s with EEPROMs already soldered into place for this purpose, but as you can see from eKennedy's posts, people would rather go out and buy a $50 remote than have a $15 remote upgraded, so they probably won't need that many of them, but it is a useful service for people who want a JP1 compatible URC-6012w but don't want to do the soldering themselves.
