Debbie, when I gave an answer to your question in the Tivo forum, I didn't realize you had the Tivo branded series 2 SA. Even if your 9800 had the Philips tivo code VCR0618, I don't believe it'll work. I'm basing it on the owners of your unit who have showed up in the Sony, HTM,and OFA remote forums,and had tried the philips codes and it didn't work. The only way to make sure that there is a OFA code for your unit is for you pick up a RS 15-2116,and try code VCR0618.

There's an upgrade file for an AT&T Series 2 TiVo in the JP1 file section, and it uses the same codes as the regular Philips/Hughes TiVos, so I would expect VCR/0618 to work.

Debbie, on your tivo do you have default "0" address? Because that's what VCR0618 is on Philips Tivos.

Debbie Debbie, if by :didn't work" you mean that the code does not exist in the 9800, then yes, it doesn't, you need to either add it yourself using JP1 or send the rmeote back to OFA to have them add it. If you have had the code added and it still doesn't work, then I suggest you are doing something wrong, because it is the right code. Rob http://www.hifi-remote.com

I have read a little about the JP1, but is it really that hard to do? OR does it cost anything or much to send it back for them to upgrade?
Edmund, I'm not sure what you mean by default "0". I have the Tivo brand, not Sony or Philips if that means anything.

To find out what remote address your set to. try this;
1. Hit menu 2. go to messages & setup 3. then system information 4. scroll down to "remote address"
If it's set to "0", it would say "remote address "0" not set" If it's set to something else, you'll need to set to "0", continue from step 4.
5. pointing the tivo remote away from the tivo, press and hold PAUSE and TIVO buttons, until the red light remains on. 6. while pointing the remote towards the tivo hit "0". that changes the tivo remote to "0" 7. to change the receiver, press the right cursor, now both receiver and remote should be set to "0".

Thanks, the remote address did say: Not Set (0). I did walk through it anyway just to make sure but when I did (7.), which I believe to be the arrow keys. I pressed the right arrow and it just beeped at me. There was no where to go.

I have had the 9800 for about 2 years now, so I guess the answer would be no. Not sure how to go about that.
I don't mean to be dumb, put what does OFA mean?

OFA stands one-for-all remote. To get the 9800 upgraded you need to call UEIC the makers of the remote, they give you a number, then ship it to OHIO. I've upgraded 5 9800's, first 2 at a time, then 3. They were back in my hands in a week. It might be easier if you just bought a new remote, like the Radio Shack 15-2116, If you need an RF remote then if you can wait abit the 15-2117 will be out pretty soon.
