Thanks for the info. I will look into this. Your answer sound easier than trying to upgrade with the JP1 jumber.

I just had my 'One for All' remote programmed to except the Tivo's 0618 and 0636 device codes. I have tried both codes and neither work. I am able to program my learning buttons to work by facing the 2 remotes together but that is all that is working.

I once received individuals codes for programming each key for all my devices. Does anyone have the Tivo codes to do this? I guess that is what I'm going to have to do.

Thanks,
Debbie

Debbie, you are programming VCR 0618, using the VCR device button? Tivo code VCR 0636 is the Sony SA tivo code. For advanced codes check www.hifi-remote.com.

I already have my VCR on my VCR remote button, so I was trying to use my AUX button for the Tivo. I have also tried code 0618.

I have also tried code 0618.

Then use the mode map feature to turn the AUX device into a VCR.

1. press SETUP
2. scroll down to CONFIGURE
3. hit SELECT
4. scroll down to MODE MAP
5. hit SELECT
6. hit VCR
7. then AUX

Now program the AUX device with code 0618.

Debbie, when you say the VCR/0618 code doesn't work, do you mean the remote says INVALID when you try to assign it, or do you mean it says SUCCESS but doesn't control your TiVo.

If it's the former see all the previous replies, if it's the latter, have you accidentally programmed your TiVo to use a specific unit code? If you have, this would explain why the 0618 code doesn't work. I'm not a TiVo user and I don't recall which screen you have to scroll to to set the unit code, so a TiVo user will have to help you with that if you don't know how to do it.

If nobody gives you the answer here, take the question over to the avsforum and they'll answer it for you.

Edmund, I just checked out the www.hifi-remote.com web page and tried to do a keymove. Exp. code 726 (Instant Replay) to my down arrow key and it total ignors me. I did double check that the AUX button was programmed to code 0618 first.

Not sure what's happening. I have the remotes manual right in front of me and have programmed this remote for several devices, learning buttons and keymoves with no problems but this one just isn't happening. I'm wondering if OFA even programmed it at all.

Rob, the Philips tivo code found in all universal remotes, is the default code, which will control any philips/hughes tivo no matter what remote address it's set for. If its set remote address 9, it'll also respond to a remote set for "0", the default. Which pretty much makes any universal remote with a preprogrammed code for tivo useless if you have two tivos.

I doesn't say it is invalid at all. It does take the code just fine but no button work at all with the Tivo. Edmund, I did what you said and now when I push the AUX button it says VCR2 now and then I reset it to the 0618 code to make sure but still no buttons work.

Debbie, when you press the AUX button does it say AUX or VCR2. For the tivo code to work it needs to be a VCR. If you haven't change the AUX to a VCR, but it still takes code 0618, thats because there's a tape deck that uses code 0618 also. See if your 9800 takes SAT code 1142.

If all TiVos always respond to the default code (just like with ReplayTV) and Debbie has really programmed the VCR/0618 code, I have no idea why it's not working.

As for using advanced codes, I don't know whether they would have given you the new version of the TiVo code or not, if they gave youthe old version (which is likely) advanced codes won't work with it.

Just did a test. I programmed my regular VCR button for the 0618 code. I push the up arrow button and my Panasonic VCR starts to play. So It is not taking the 0618 code at all. I'm not getting any error message. I also tried some off the wall TV code to a brand I don't have and programmed the TV button. It still controls the TV. So I went to extremes and did the "clear all" command. I watched the remote display and it confirmed. The remote is still programmed, and it did not clear. What gives.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I WAS SOOOO DUMB. I have a typed paper that has all my codes on it with program commands I need. I was missing an "select" after entering in the code number so it was not taking the code at all. The remote is now working with my Tivo.

Thanks for all your help and again I'm so sorry for wasting your time.

Debbie
