Looking at the 2116, isn't nearly as effective as the 8811 for replaytv. It doesn't have the extra FF & RW buttons so useful for skips and replays. No real good place for the guide & zones buttons, and it is black (can't easily label keys). And it has that stupid LCD. I'll stick with my 8811 and leave this one to you old 1994/jp1 guys.
This thread has been super informative about the new remotes. Thanks a lot!

I put the instant replay and quick skip functions on the two lower buttons ('swap' and 'move') between the volume and channel rockers. Above those two I have the 3minute skip and return to live (on 'pip' and 'freeze'). That puts all of the most used buttons right by my thumb.

I have the channel guide on 'guide' and the replay guide right next to it on 'fav/scan'. I rarely use Zones, but it is on 'Sleep'.

I like TV/VCR and SLEEP for IR and QS, then ENTER for the 3 minute skip.

I am new to this world of universal programmable remotes, so sorry if this is a "dumb" question.

When a Macro is assigned to a key in the 2116, is that device dependent, or does it execute the same Macro no matter which device is active?

Does the Power button turn on all devices defined in My System when My System is active?

Thanks.

Can "Sleep" and "Fav/scan" be programmed without using JP1? I was under the impression they couldn't.
I make extensive use of TV/VCR for switching inputs on my TV (and the PIP), so I can't assign replay functions to that button.
Iuse channel guide on "guide", and replay guide on "shift-guide".

the macro executes no matter what device is active.

Normally macros execute regardless of device. You can override a macro with a key move so it doesn't execute on individual device(s).

No. The power key is dead in My System mode. Even JP1 doesn't fix that.

Even JP1 doesn't fix that.

You could assign a power on macro to another key, like the My System key, then put a power off macro on P, Power (works even when in My System mode).

I use the following Micro on "My System" key.

1- MY_SYSTEM TV;power;AUDIO;9;TV;3;enter;TV;3;enter;tv/video;SAT;3;0

The TV,Audio,and Satillite are Sony.
TV+power turns on TV and Audio.
TV+3+enter is time killer.
TV/Video changes the TV to Input #1
Satillite active and set channel to 30.

This works fine for me. However, what I think I've
been reading is that it should not. Is this Correct??
Thanks

that's a macro programmed to the My System "device" button, not the My system power button. I don't think anyone said that that wouldn't work.
BTW, that second TV in TV-3-enter is kinda wasted since the remote is already in TV mode from the prior sequence, wouldTV enter(or any dead tv button),,3,enter,tv/vcr also work? I assume it's just for a time delay
Jim
Power in the My system mode is the dead key, not power in tv mode. Or was there something else I missed that wasn't supposed to work?

OK Jim, thanks for the answer. Guess I don't truly understand "My System" button without a micro.
I think your right about the extra "TV" in micro.
Will give it a try. Just as you pointed out,it's just a delay until TV comes on enough to see the next command.

Rob,
I thought everyone knew what that was: Micro=any macro that uses less than the full compliment of 15 key presses. ;)

it really sucks that my system disables the power button. i have two dvd players and wanted to use that key for one of them instead of vcr or aux.

what is the purpose of designing it that way. it would require you to switch to a device to turn anything off.

Can you redefine the My System key to be a different device? If so, change it to be a dvd key. The keymapping will then follow that allowed for dvd. I never have understood the concept "Home Theater" and "My System" To me it's just a wasted device key.
