My 1994 remote does not seem to have the codes for my Panasonic TV. The TV is 10 years old and was purchased overseas. Since the codes are not in the remote, shouldn't I be able to learn some functions from the TV remote to the 1994? I have tried to teach the remote but it doesn't seem to want to learn. All I get is one long blink. The lady at RS customer service said that since the TV isn't in the database, the remote would not learn any functions. Duh, what is she talking about? Thanks

The 15-1994 is a very good learner, so you should be able to learn the functions. Maybe you need to clear out the remote before you start using the 980 command.

I ran into this with one of my pieces. The remote that I was using to "teach" would only send short pulses for power and mute instead of a long signal like it did for volume. Therefore I could not learn those buttons.

Just FYI, the 15-1994 can learn short burst signals, so this would not have been the cause of the problem.

Rob,
If it can learn bursts then why can I learn vol +/- which are steady signals and not power or mute? And this was on power, mute or s keys. I did try a second 1994 thinking that it might be defective.

I would have to have your OEM remote in my hands to run tests on it to answer your question, but I can confirm that the 15-1994 will learn short bursts. After all, the reason that I ws able to create a new protocol for the Boston Accoustic is because Dave learned the short burst commands and emailed me his memory dump.

Am I correct in assuming that to get advance codes into a rs-1994 I need to build a jp-1 box and buy software ? Is there an easier way to get devise codes into the rs-1994. ie video input codes. I a have the codes from hi-fi remote now what?

ahhh. This is the same problem I am having - see my other thread.

The audio input changes on my sony amp are not learnable for some reason. I don't think its a short burst, but rather a macro or two seperate signals that can't be learned into one?

I don't think there is a work around on this one.. I may have to get a sony all in one. I also know the problem is not memory since I cleared it all out first and it still won't learn.

Dave,
False. Here's a link to the enhanced manual on hifi-remote.com. It's a good starting point for basic questions like yours:

Thank you Glenn, I did not realize there was an advance manual and was trying to figure out how to program advance codes from the supplied manual. I now have the video inputs working with discrete on and off. Only waiting for Radio Shack to send me codes for the component inputs.

Thanks again this forum is invaluable.

"Only waiting for Radio Shack to send me codes"

Good Luck - if Radio Shack has advanced code lists better than those on hifi-remote.com I'd be stunned. Try this link, which is indexed by the UEIC code for your device:
[Link: hifi-remote.com]
If it's not there, a way to find advanced codes is to go to the file section here at Remote Central, and look for a CCF file for your device. Get the CCF2EFC utility, and execute it against your .CCF file. This will tell you the Enhanced Function Codes for each of the buttons that someone has built into the .CCF.
[a CCF is a configuration file for a Philips Pronto Remote, which has been dumped to a PC].
You can also use Setup-x-y-z to sequence through all possible advanced codes for your device (xyz = 000, 001,002,...255). When a code does something, write it down; Share the compiled list with Rob at www.hifi-remote.com so it'll be there in the future.
