Hi All….

I am posting this on both “Remote Central” (NEO & X10) & “Pronto Edit”, It seems to be an on going question that no one seems to be able to answer…I have been an X-10 user for better than 20 years, back when they were part of “BSR” & sold through “DAK”, as a matter of fact I still have the old brown ULTRASONIC remote control for X-10 & it still works!!!

That aside & back to the unanswered question;

Has anyone been able to teach the X-10 IR codes to the “NEO”?????????

If anyone has any insight please advise………….

I do have a work around for purposes of Home Theater use, but it is not the solution to the problem…..

You will need a X-10 “Macro Module -IR” this is available from the online Home Automation Catalog houses & X-10 PRO, I don’t think this is sold in the standard X-10 product line. This little box is actually pretty cool, you can build huge X-10 Macros triggered by a single standard X-10 on command. That said, & be careful, there are 2 versions of this little guy one with IR & one w/out, the IR input will detect most any signal from any IR remote to execute your programmed Macro, so it might be your TV On or DVD On or any key you wish, as long as it is putting out an IR signal.

I have been able to teach X-10 IR to my Sony AV2100, One For All IR/RF Home Theater Remote, & other learning & all work fine with my IR543, But not the “NEO”, so any thoughts or ideas gladly accepted. LET’S FIGURE THIS OUT!!!

As a final note I have seen several postings on X-10 forums regarding their 2.4 Gig Cams… A note of caution here… If you have a 2.4 Gig wireless phone, or if your neighbor does, if you use a microwave, or as I do, run Wireless Ethernet, AKA 802.11b, & WiFi, expect interference to totally destroy the picture!!! I bought 2 of these when they first came out, called X-10 support, & they pretty much said “TOUGH”!! So if you live on an island or in the middle of the desert, I will make you a great deal on 2 Cams, 2 Receivers, & 2 Batt Pks.

Just bought a NEO and trying to convert a B&K AV remote which is the 8 in one unit sold online. It has x-10 codes and tried to have "NEO" learn them.
Did not work. Somehow the NEO will not be seen by the x-10 4040 base station (no LED responce) If you find out how NEO will work with a x-10 4040 base receiver, let me know.

Don't have an immediate solution, but I do have an idea ...

The problem is that the NEO will not learn from the OneForAll remotes, which are the only type that currently support X-10. (I believe that their "on" state is too long for the NEO; it likes shorter batches of pulses from a quickly "tapped" key.) If we could get even ONE NEO to learn the 0-9/Dim/On codes for the IR543 Control Center then we could distribute them to the group via an NCF.

Now the good part: The "big" Prontos recently got X-10 capabilities through their CCF files (which NEOs don't use). If anyone can find a Pronto or ProntoPro user who has/can do this upgrade, then we could (hopefully) get a NEO to learn the codes from its big brother. Assuming that the NEO will learn from the Pronto, of course ...

Anyone out there know of a Pronto user who might assist? Maybe the folks at X-10Pro or SmartHome might assist since they sell both the Pronto and X-10 devices.

I don't have an X-10 setup, but I do have a Pronto and a Neo. I can download a Pronto X-10 CCF, program my Pronto and learn it to my Neo. I'll post the NCF file and someone with X10 can confirm whether it works. I'll post back here on Saturday when it's ready.

Well, I gave it a try, but the Neo will not learn the X-10 codes from the Pronto. I also tried to learn them from a UCommand 525, but that didn't work either. Back to the drawing board. :-(

The X10 IR codes you posted on Yahoo did not work with the Neo and the X10 IR543 receiver.

However, the follow codes DO work; although, the range is limited to about five feet. Below are the IR codes for units 3, 5 and 6 as well as ON and OFF.

Unit 3: 0 f 6c 3 5f 4e 2e 8e fe 3f 5f bc 16 62 21 56 61 95 15 62 21 56 61 95 7c 3

Unit 5: 0 f 6c 3 5f 4e 2e 8e fe 3f 5f bc 16 22 16 56 15 96 15 22 16 56 15 96 7c 3

Unit 6: 0 f 6c 3 5f 4e 2e 8e fe 3f 5f bc 56 21 16 62 15 96 55 21 16 62 15 96 7c 3

On: 0 f 6c 3 5f 4e 2e 8e fe 3f 5f bc 16 62 61 55 61 a1 7c 3

Hello Mark,
Well done ! I used your codes and they worked. How did you create them ?
For my X10, I have a RadioShack 15-1919R (part of a remote control setup. (the remote for it broke, an I was using a newer RS 15-1995). I was able to teach the neo from this remote, but never got the neo to work on the x10.
I even have a (big)pronto TSU2000. Was able to teach it the x10 commands from the RS1995, and it worked ok.
I even did copy and paste the codes from the bigpronto to the neo (in neohacker) but they didn't work.

Please let me know if I can assist with testing the other codes, or how you were able to create them.
Need units 1,2,4 allon alloff bright and dim.

Thanks
Steve

Mark:

I pasted the X-10 codes as defined into my Neo using NeoHacker (first defining a "learned control" from an unrelated source), but it doesn't work -- the IR543's "receive" lite does not come on. Could it be the duration code? Looking for suggestions. Give more details on how you derived your codes.

To assist I put an IR543-only NCF on aol://5862:144/members.aol.com:/m4um/pub (or whatever ftp protocol you like to use) to use as a basis for further development with your codes pasted in where appropriate. Does it work with yours?

Thanks

Here are the X10 codes you requested. For completeness, I've included some I posted previously. I have not tested all of the codes. They were created by 1) downloading a Proto CCF file with X10 codes, 2)
viewing the codes with CCF Dumper and 3) converting them with Pat's Pronto2NEOConverter spreadsheet.

Unit 1: 0 f 6c 3 5f 4e 2e 8e fe 3f 5f bc 16 56 21 16 62 95 15 56 21 16 62 95 7c 3

I am not satisfied with the range but I do not know how to improve it.
Steve - how far away can you use your NEO to control X10 devices?
(M4um - this could be your issued (I checked your NCF and it looked ok; try using the NEO directly in front of your IR543).

Hi Mark,
I tested units 1-4 and they all worked perfectly. (that's all the devices that I have. Judging by the pattern in the strings the units 5-8 have a similar charcter pattern and will probably work if anyone else cares to try.

All On and All off also worked.
Bright and Dim did not. If I look for the pattern, every set of codes begin with
"0 f 6c 3 5f 4e 2e 8e fe"
and then end with
" 7c 3"

except for these 2 buttons. I did try the conversion from the ccf file by copying firectly from pronto edit to Pats spread sheet. The pattern that I got was more like what you show in the bright/dim buttons.
In this case they start the same and from charcter sets 13 to 18 repeat themselves. I wonder if what was recorded in the ccf file just got truncated when it copied to the spread sheet. At least it is something for me to play around with, and try adding the 7c 3 at the end.

As to the range, these X10 codes (and everything else) work on my Neo from 20 feet away. (that's as wide as the room is) Do you have any flourecent or other strange lights that might be interfering ? Try turning all lights off and see what happens. (I assume that you are using good alkaline batteries and not necessarily rechargables ?)

This is an amazing forum, and I think the NEO is the best remote I've used yet. I've got more functionality on it than I had with some of the original remotes. With Macros set up, I can now hit 1 button and turn on and set multiple devices to the right inputs.

I'll post back here when I work out the right combination. It must be close to what is needed.

Thanks for your help.

M4um and Swally54,
Would you be willing to test a later version of my converter on X10 and let me know the results? It generates simpler code but I don't have X10 equipment to find out if it works for X10. If you are willing, send me a note with your email address and I will send you the new converter. By the way which version are you using, v1.1 or v1.2? Thanks.

Hello Pat,
I am using your 1.1 version of the spread sheet. I was unable to get it to translate the codes that I copied from the prontoedit program to work correctly. I will send you my e-mail seperatly, and will see what happens with the new version.
Thanks

Hi Steve,

So you were able to get the Neo to work with a IR543? I've taken the NCF file that Mark put together and it didn't work with my IR543. The IR codes shown in my NCF via NEOHacker match those shown above. What brand of IR543 do you have? This is soo frustrating! =)

Thanks!
