Any ideas on how to control 3 identicle cable boxes ( motorolla high def) that feed one room with three displays? I'm using an MX 850, two LG lcd's and a sim2 c3x projector and would like to be able to watch different things on each display at the same time and have independat control of each box as well. Did I screw myself or am i missing something obvious that i hadn't thought of? I also currently have only one IR sensor in the room above the screen. Any input is much appreciated thanks

Buy yourself an MRF-300. You can then create 3 devices CBL1, CBL2, CBL3. All will be identical, but in the RF setup you will set CBL1 to Line1 on the MRF, CBL2 will be set to Line2, CBL3 will be set to Line3.

Next you run an emitter from the MRF Port1 to Cable Box 1, Port2 to Cable Box 2, and so on.

All this, of course, after you make sure the dial on the bottom is set to 0. Then watch the status light for 1 minute if it doesn't flicker at all, change it to any ID but 0, change the ID in the software to the same as the MRF and download the remote. If it does flicker, relocate the antenna until you see no flickering.

This is easy to do, we just did a bar with 13 identical TVs, 8 identical SAT receivers, and other equipment with 3 MRF300s and an MX-3000.

and those who don't!

Eric is correct, this is the easiest way.

One thing I might add is that you may have to mask the IR emitter on each cable box so that they don't leak over to each other. Other than that you should be good to go, assuming your IR commands are solid and you have no RF interference.

I also agree. A separate box for TV and an MRF-300 (if your boxes are centrally located in one rack or cabinet). You can adjust the IR output level from the MRF-300, so that is a big help. You may still want to use emitter covers to be safe.

Thank you,

Can I still use IR macros in combo with the RF like if Ido an all on command can I sneak aN RF on command for the cable boxes in the middle somewhere? or do you think it's better to just do the whole thing RF as we will have pretty involved macros to the functions we want?

also the sim2 C3X does not have discrete power commands, ther is an upgrade to allow you to configure the F1 or F2 button to act as a power off, but the power button is still a toggle

I would use a MRR300 as suggested above and cover the emitters on the boxes

The Moto boxes can do power on with menu, power, power; off with menu, power. You'd have to do that individually with each. Else leave them on all the time like I do.

Only caution is if you have a DVR, the above won't work reliably if in the midst of recording. A query box pops up and says, "do you want to keep recording or not". Blows the deal

Yes. If you get the MRF-300 you can assign in programming which device gets IR output and which gets RF. So you could continue to use your existing IR systems for the other devices, install the mrf-300 for the cable boxes, change the programming such that the cable box devices only output RF, setup your channel ID, assign the ir ports for each cable box (do not use all) and you should be good to go as long as your codes are fine from the beginning via IR. Now would be a good time to check this, once everything is solid, insert the mrf-300 into the system for the cable boxes.
