I have a Universal Remote Model UR4-EXPG CHD2 which I believe is an upgrade from the UR4-EXP CHD1. But I can't confirm this. The problem that I am having is that the remote will not go into programing mode when I depress the chosen device key and the Select key simultaneously. Upon pressing these two keys and holding for 3 seconds, the device key is supposed to light and stay on for 20 seconds awaiting a code input, mine does not light after holding both keys for the 3 seconds. Anybody have an Owners Manual for this Model? I would Gratefully accept any info, as this DAMN thing is driving me nuts!

First, press the button of the device you wish to program (AUX, VCR, TV or CBL). Then hold down the mute & select buttons simultaneously until the device button you selected blinks 3 times. You then have 20 seconds to enter the 3-digit code for your device. Good luck.

I had/have the same problem. I now know how to get it into programming mode but the 3 digit codes I have do not work nor does the automatic programming. Is there an updated code list online or an updated users guide.

I still have not been able to find a users guide that mentions simultaneously depressing the mute and select to get into programming mode. What other differences between chd1 and 2 and/or exp and expg? Thanks!!

You don't press the device you want. You press and hold mute and select at the same time the TV device button will flash keep holding and every 3 sec it will switch to another device from TV to VCR to AUX and last CBL let off the mute and select buttons when the device you wish to program starts flashing the device led will remain on. You now have 20 sec to program device. good luck.

Thank you so much for posting these instructions.

I have a Charter Cable remote UR4-EXPG CHD1. Charter's site doesn't even list this particular remote as an option and the actual remote websites instructions aren't correct.

The Mute + Select button at the same time was the key. How the heck do they expect you to firgure that out. Thank gawd for the net.

Now I can finally dump my crappy RCA universal remote that's always been a POS and just use one remote.

Thanks again.

I'm also having a problem programming the Universal Remote Model UR4-EXPG CHD1 for my TV. The tip about holding down the MUTE+SELECT buttons until the TV LED light stays on for 20 seconds works, and, when I hold down the "CH+" button while pointing it at my tv I can get the Mute funtion to activate but I can't seem to store the configuration on the remote. I press the "TV" button but can't get it to stop illuminating.

The same is also true if I try the manual method of inputting the 3 digit code. I hold down the MUTE+SELECT button, enter a Samsung code and the TV will turn off or activate the mute button but then I can't seem to store this information.
Additionally, if I I go through the steps above and then wait 20 or 30 seconds until the TV LED turns off, I can press the MUTE+SELECT buttons and then press the INFO button to see what code I inputted but the sequence that the remote tells me that I pressed is incorrect. i.e. if I press "004" and then check to see what the remote tells me that I pressed it gives responses like "248".
Aaarg!

Does anyone know how to fix this? I would really appreciate it.
I have a fairly old Samsung TV [ model TXJ2067 ] if that is important in any way.
Thanks, everyone.

OK, my previous post can be disregarded as I have fixed the problem. For anyone out there that is having this same problem, the way that I finally got the programming code that I entered to be stored on the remote was to follow these steps:

1. Press the SELECT+MUTE buttons for 3 seconds until the TV button lit up. (Muchas gracias to member GOKU!)

2. Enter the 3 digit programming code (in my case it was 211)

3. Press and hold the SELECT+MUTE button for an additional 20 seconds. This may seem obvious in retrospect since it's the way to initiate the programming module, but hey, what can you do?

The ABOVE instructions FINALLY helped me get through the WHOLE process. One caveat, though: In step 3, MY remote only only accept the code that was entered by pressing ONLY the SELECT button. SELECT + MUTE for the final step did not work on my remote with this serial number.

Ok, this all seems to work well and good for programming the TV (thank you VERY much!!)... now, what's the super secret key combination to program the VCR and AUX buttons? Regardless of which device button I press, using Select & Mute brings me back to programming the TV.

Thanks in advance.

Ok. I know how to program the remote. This thread helped tremendously in that area. It's easy enough. Where do I get the stinkin codes. I can't program the remote without the codes. Does anyone know where to get them?

I am having serious issues...I have the UR4-EXPG CHD2 remote. I did all the steps -Holding SELECT and MUTE - Light stays on for 20 seconds to enter 3-digit code - Tried all the codes for a Panasonic TV. It will only let me use the remote to change channels and powering off the cable box. I have contacted customer service for Charter and they couldn't even help me. I have been at this for a time now and haven't got very far. Does anyone have the codes for the Panasonic TV. Also have any hints on what I maybe doing wrong? Seems none of the codes works. I am in great need of help. Last option is going down to the Charter offices and see what they say. My thoughts are, it maybe the tv responder that isn't working. Let me know what you guys think. Thanx...
