Can some one put the new software version 7.4 here for download.
So we can play with it and not have to wait to the end of February.

I copied all files I could find and for whatever reason the CD has 100M of content but I can only find 50M. I assume the other 50M is in a Mac only readable partition? Anyways here it is Logitech Harmony Software 7.4. for PC

Question: thinking about getting the One, and tried to set up my devices/layout prior to buying a harmony. Dialogue seems to indicate I can skip the connection step (as long as I come back to it later) but no love; every path leads me back to needing to connect. Any advice?

Sorry klrjaa, the Test Drive feature has been diasbaled, unfortunately.
My advice is to get one from a store with a good return policy.
In saying that, I am sure you will be satisfied with any Harmony remote.
I have two : 550 and 890.

Count me in as somebody else who's gutted this Harmony One won't include the 4 absolutely essential coloured-buttons.

I have 3 pieces of UK kit that require these buttons - a Panasonic TV, a Sky Digibox and a Sony PVR. I really can't imagine fumbling my way around the touch sensitive screen for these buttons and, because 4 of the 8 spaces will have been used up, having to go to screen 2 or 3 for other key buttons such as "Timer", "Aspect", "AV/TV" which I currently have programmed on screen 1.

I was really looking forward to upgrading my Harmony 885 to the One but now, I guess I'll just have to wait for the next one.

Thanks for the Upload.
It works perfect, until now i can't see something news.
I own the 895, so it maybe under the hood.
Will check more, and when i find something interesting i will write it here.

I don't understand all this complaining about solid color buttons. If I am not mistaken you can now change the bitmap images on the LCD. If that's the case just create a solid color bitmap. Problem solved with back lighting to boot, no?

Not if you're already using the LCD buttons for other things - then you end up with multiple pages.

I'm sure they'll come out with a Euro version with the color buttons just like they did with the other remotes.

Why they don't sell that version everywhere is beyond me.

No.

I'm guessing that everybody here who understands why these hard buttons are crucial is European and everybody else is American, yes?

To put it in a slightly exaggerated context, what would you think if the only way to get transport buttons was soft buttons? Exactly. To me, transport & colour buttons are equally important.

I was just checking out of curiosity the "other" favourable remotes from Philips and surprise surprise even their UK models do not have any colored hard buttons....

In the end what is the point of arguing? For the ones who need it wait for a "Eurpoean" model or look at other brands and for the ones who don't need just accept that they need it and have to look elsewhere....

I think it's interesting that after all this debate, no one has pointed out the origin/history of the "4 color buttons"...

It's from the MHP spec - a DVB extension for interactive multimedia applications.

And while MHP is not really adopted in the US, the cable companies have been (somewhat lamely) touting their version, OCAP.

Anyway, the red-green-yellow-blue buttons are standard buttons for MHP, and I believe (at least recommended?) in OCAP. Now, widespread adoption of these two standards (they actually specify a JVM and standard run-time libraries for downloadable apps, etc) is still a ways off, but many (especially European) manufacturers/providers have started using the buttons for a lot of basic TV UI functions.

Even Ron's photo of the Dish remote shows that those colors were not chosen arbitrarily... the intent is to be able to reuse the trickplay keys for MHP-type applications (or maybe in Dish's case, OpenTV.. ugh) in the future.

Personally I think it would have been a great feature to add the 4 color buttons - at worst, it's 4 extra hard buttons right below the LCD that can be used for anything, for those who aren't big LCD fans. At best it provides near-perfect compatibility with a crapload of standard remotes in the US and elsewhere. And if it extended the length of the remote by 1/4"? I think that would have been a very worthwhile tradeoff...

Then again, after really liking most parts about the 880 but having to return it because I couldn't STAND the trickplay layout or crappy channel/volume keys, I will be getting the One - it looks like a fantastic design over all. But come on, you learn one thing from this site, it's that there is no perfect remote ;) Stay objective. There can always be improvements.

But the European model doesn't have colour buttons either. Logitech now have the ONE on their UK website, and there's no colour buttons.

I bought a 785 instead. Seems strange that Logitech in the UK have taken this backward step and removed colour buttons from their remote design for the UK market.

If you look right then also the 895 and the 885 doesn't have those buttons.
Same on the Dutch side, for every side they use the same pictures.
From a logitech expert i heard that there will be a One with the color buttons for Europe.
