well, you heard the good news... now the bad:

there are no descrete codes for any current model, however, you can buy a upgrade chip for any old set (HLM/HLN series) excluding some features from the HLM617W, for the following features:

1. Discreet Codes for on/off functions
2. Discreet Codes for video input select functions
3. Last setting memory for Aspect Ratio and Picture adjustments for each input
4. DNIe (not available on HLN617W)

pretty cool huh?

now more bad news:

The charge for this limited time offer is $200 plus applicable sales taxes.
It requires an in-home service call and should take about an hour to perform.

more bad news:

The program begins July 1, 2003 and will run through July 31,2003.
You can start registering June 15,2003.

i think its crap it only lasts 2 weeks!! i hope everyone reads about it in time!!

i will probably post on other forums too, just so everyone has a chance to see it. i know i have been waiting on this for a looooooooooooooooong time, and it will make my life (mostly for my wife) soooooo much easier!

oh yea, here is the link [Link: samsungusa.com]

Just as a side note, this program came about because of the people on AVS Forum (www.avsforum.com). Here's the original thread, with a truely absurd number of replies: [Link: avsforum.com]

I believe the discrete codes are the same as what PHSJason has previously posted here (and there). But here's some other information (from the above thread):
Samsung PDF with code info: [Link: avsforum.com]
Simple Pronto CCF with codes: [Link: avsforum.com]
Text file with codes: [Link: avsforum.com]

The discrete power on/off may work for newer sets with the latest firmware. The input selects appear to only work on upgraded sets (and presumably the forthcoming 467/567). If you have a recently purchased set the upgrade may be less than $200.

Samsung DLP Discrete codes are in firmware versions 212 or later. To check the firmware version of your set you must enter into the Service Mode using your remote. Start with the TV turned off. Using the remote, enter the following sequence; Mute-1-8-2-Power. The set will come up with a service menu. The S/W Revision will be the last three numbers displayed in red near the bottom of the screen. To exit the Service Mode, turn the set off for about 1 minute before using again. Hmmm...I wonder what the other Service Options do that are displayed on the screen.

I just purchased the Samsung HLN567W DLP. In the description on Samsung's sight, they say it already has discreet inputs. Anyone know how to access them?

They are not accessable on the Sammy remote. You must program a Pronto or other remote to use the discrete commands.

These are some codes I came across on the AVS forums. I am still waiting for my TV to arrive so hopefully they work. I am considering going to the store where I purchased my TV from and testing the codes on their floor model. :)

I was able to test these codes and they all work. I don't have them in a ccf file, however. Also, here are the codes for discrete On and Off.

Discrete On 001
Discrete Off 253

I recently upgraded my Samsung DLP television (HLN4365W) to allow use of discrete codes for on/off and input select features. Problem is --- neither I nor my home theater installer have any clue how to access these discrete controls with my Niles IntelliControl. Samsung will only provide me a list of Hex codes, which my installer says is useless with the IntelliControl. Can someone please tell me what I need to program these Samsung discrete commands into a Niles IntelliControl? My installer claims we need IR codes to make this work, but we have no clue where to turn for help. Thanks!

You will need a remote capable of having the codes put into it and then use that remote to learn the codes into the Intellifile learner. I can send you the codes and show you how to merge them into the Intellifile library.

I have a Pioneer VSX-45TX receiver that came with a pretty decent remote. I would like to use the discreet codes to change the input on the television when I click DVD function or click VCR2 (HD Cable box), etc. I have a laptop with an IR module so is there software that I can import the ccf files above to then IR a function to my learning remote? Or more simply, HOW DO I USE DISCRETE CODES, p.s. I also have a pocket pc.
