Shack Remote.

Once you program device code TV0060, say you want to map the Advanced code(EFC) for video 1(177) to the +100 key on the 2103, here's how

1. press tv
2. press and hold P for two blinks
3. enter 9-9-4
4. tap P
5. enter 177
6. hit +100 key.

Without mapping the EFC, you can also just test the EFC by;
1. tapping P
2, now while pointing the remote at the TV, enter the EFC, the command will fire after the third digit it entered.

YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER. How in the heck did you figure this out? A simple 16.99 remote to solve a problem that only a 400+ pronto could previously. Plus where did that guy find the codes? (like 192 for s-video1)?

It took a week. These forums rock.

UEI remotes have had advanced codes since the 80's, each setup code can have upto 256(000-255) advanced codes. So someone sat there punching EFC's and came up the list. The best place to find lists of advanced codes is www.hifi-remote.com

I have downloaded a CCF with the Samsung discrete codes, and while on a job this past weekend, I tested them on a brand new 50" model (didn't get the model number). I am positive this TV would not have had an upgrade to it. But, all the codes worked great.

However, when placed in a macro, I got intermittent results at best. Most of the time, the code would not excecute, and the jump at the end of the macro would not execute as well. When run in the emulator, the emulator would bomb out with a general protection fault error at the same time of the jump. I removed the discrete code reference from the macro(s), and all works great. So the codes seem to be fishy. I was programming a Marantz RC9200. Anyone else find this behavior?

What other equipment is in the system? It is possible, that moving the comands within the macro will fix that issue. The codes come straight from Samsung and I have had no problem with them. I have had similiar problems with other equipment and found that just adding delays or moving commands solved the problem.

Jason, I did experiment with longer delays (up to 2 seconds), but that did not solve anything. The macros are very simple - they switch a Marantz A/V receiver input and switch the Samsung TV input, then jump to the appropriate device panel. I didn't play around long enough to investigate further. I think it's really odd the emulator bombs out, and the remote just stops executing the macro. I had previously setup a macro scheme where I change inputs automatically calling separate macros that change the input from a known input. This works very consistently, so instead of troubleshooting the problem, I went with my old method. I just substituted the discrete alias within my macros to an alias to a input changing macro. This works great, but I would like to get the discretes to work. I'll have to try again the next time I run across a Samsung DLP.

I've had an HLM507W since Feb-03 but just got my TSU3000 so missed the Jul-03 window for the firmware update. Anyone had success getting the update since July? Any tips? Thanks.

Yep, I was able to get the Samsung firmware update after the program was no longer offered. You're probably not going to like the cost ... ~$500.

I called & emailed Samsung support - and they simply do not get back to you. On the phone they take your name and problem description and promise someone will get back to you. I think they throw these messages in the waste basket. But if you persevere, and explain each time how you already left messages before and no one ever calls back (and do they do keep a computer record of your calls), eventually some good soul will say "This is not right - and I promise we'll get someone to fix this."

Ultimately I did get a call back - but not from Samsung. They contacted a local repair shop and asked them to contact me about scheduling the upgrade (because I'm sure Samsung doesn't want to hear your reaction to the price ). So the shop said, we can upgrade this for you, but the part costs nearly $300 and a service call is a minimum of $200. Apparently the firmware is not really upgradeable by itself. Instead they swap out an internal card that contains the firmware (hence the huge cost).

If you can swallow that bitter pill, then you will get a TV that understands some of the vital discrete codes.

But let me warn you about some strange behaviors. You may have already experienced this even without the update. When the TV is first turned on, it warms up the display for 20 or 30 seconds. During this time it is absolutely dead to the world for all commands except for the "off." This means when you turn on the set, if the volume is too loud, there's nothing you can do about it for at least 20 seconds.

The reason this behavior is of interest with respect to these discrete codes is, if you combine the "on" command with an input selection (in a macro), it will not obey the input selection if the TV is already off. However, if the TV is on, it works nicely (and is not bothered by the extraneous "on" command).

The input selection command always reselects the input, even if it is already selected (the display blinks for a moment even if it is already on the input you are redundantly selecting). This isn't a big problem, but if you wanted to set up some all encompassing macros (to allow children to press the Disney icon and no matter what, always get the components configured correctly), it doesn't work as elegantly as it could.

All in all, I am very glad I have this update as it has made managing all of the different video sources a much simpler job. (But $500 - ouch!!!)

Over in the AVS forums, collinp I think posted a bunch of three digit codes for the Samsung DLPs. The only one that I haven't been able to get a pronto hex code for is the close caption toggle. If anyone has this, I'd very much appreciate your posting it here.

I am new to this all...but do you need a software program to input discreet codes into the remote or can you do it manually with the actual remote? I have a MX600 and wanted enter discreet codes for my Samsung DLP. I have a mac so I guess there isnt any software for me to edit code for my remote.

I used the Samsung DLP discrete codes and put them on my pda as well using the pdawin. The problem I am having is neither my mx-500 or my URC-8811 will learn the IR commands from my PDA, eventhough my TV will respond to the discrete input codes from the PDA. Any thought?

I have tested and confirmed that the link above
for the ccf file for the DISCRETE CODES FOR INPUT
CHANGING works beautifully on my new HLN467W television.
FINALLY, no thanks to samsung, I can program
my pioneer remote to switch inputs when I change
between DVD, TV/SAT (dvr box), and VCR2 (HD box),
CD (sound for ANT in).

NOTE: I don't have a pronto but found a program
for the Pocket PC from http://www.pdawin.com called
TV Remote controller that will run Pronto .ccf
files. Then if you have a learning remote you
can capture the IR output from the Pocket PC.
I tested the .ccf on my DLP and the discrete
codes for changing inputs work fine. Now All
I have to do is transfer the IR output to my Pioneer
VSX-45TX learning remote and I am set. I too
emailed Samsung and got the Cryptic .XLS file.

I don't know why they won't learn. But for the 8811, using the EFC number is generally better than learning anyway.

I think the EFC numbers been listed in most places that discuss these Samsung discretes. But if you have some Pronto Hex for which you can't find the EFC number, you can post a link to it or copy it into this thread and one of the experts will tell you the EFC number.

The way to bind a signal by EFC number to a key is discussed in many threads, including this [Link: remotecentral.com] message earlier in the thread we're in.

I have the Exccel file that Montini posted which has the Samsung TV Discrete Key layout and the Hex to IR code and the IR code to Hex workbooks, but my problem is I am not quite sure what to do with them. Say for instance I am looking for the discrete codes for the DVI input...it shows on that Excel file as being 8A. What can I do with 8A to get that either straight onto my MX-500 or to the URC-8811 so I can teach it to my MX-500. I think I found some of the codes that you are talking about when referring to EFC numbers, like 138 for DVI1 and 255 for DVI2. I tried both of those codes in my URC-8811 and the green light on the front of the TV responded to the signal by flashing the light, but the TV did not change inputs or show any other response. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
