I have a basic bosch laser that gives me a straight line on a ceiling and down the wall to help line up in-ceiling speakers etc when doing retrofits or sometimes pre-wires.  I love this tool as I hate trying to measure off walls that can be off-set etc.  when the electrician throws in can lights that are not in a straight line its handy for mapping out a happy medium that looks balanced visually.  I'm thinking of stepping up to something that can give me cross-hairs on the ceiling if it exists. Anyone have a favorite laser tool they like?

I got the Bosch as well. Love it.

My cousin has an amazing lazier he uses for high end carpentry. It does grids on ceilings walls its as well at the horizontal and fertile cross hairs... I know he got it like 3 years ago and was north of a grand. No idea who makes it

+1 bosch. Had the CST one and had issues. Returned to Home Depot and bought the less expensive Bosch, never have issues. Also have a $800+ Bosch rotary self leveling laser that use on lager jobs that kicks ass. But I'm afraid to take it out of the shop so it's lives on a shelf most of the time.

Which model Bosch laser do you have?

Btw, when I looked at their site noticed they have an $800 wall scanner. I wonder if it can actually detect a stud. Some days I would pay $800 for a stud finder if it would really work

I picked up a Bosch GLL 3-80 a couple of months back.  Also got the telescopic pole accessory.  I can't believe I lived as long as I did without this.

There are so many things this will save you time with, if you use your head.

My favorite application is lining up speakers on can lights or other fixtures.

I also use the horizontal laser to set all of my wall box heights.

Lots more, but thats up to you to figure out!

HD had a sale on the Ryobi laser and the line isn't straight, so avoid that one.

I really wish somebody made one of these damn things I could use.  I'd really like to have one, I've actually got one sitting in my basement right now that I bought to hang ceiling tiles, after about 10 minutes of monkeying with it, I broke out the snap-line.  These things are like Facebook for me, I just don't grasp it.

I fell on my head as a youngster.  Alot.

I actually have to agree with you, Maybe im old school but if im doing a pre-wire ill just use string to line up speakers with a row of lights. I find that unless your in a room where the sun isnt shining in its extremely hard to see the laser without those goofy red glasses.

I guess I could see the value when the walls are up and you have one shot to get it right but ive been just fine without it, Not convinced its that big of a time saver. IDK maybe i was dropped on my head too much to :)

I like the Bosch g3, maybe ill pick it up at HD and play with it for 29 days, if it doesnt save me time ill just take it back =D

If you want to be able to see the laser easier in daylight you need to look into a green laser. We picked up a used Johnson rotary green laser from a contractor going out of business for 450 dollars. Night and day better visibility compared to red laser. When new these things are quite expensive...but there's always people getting rid of items such as this. I think the one we snatched up retails for about 1,600.

Not straight? How is that possible? Was the line curved? Ryobi has a few different models, so which one was it?

I also recomend to stay away from the Ryobi lasers, but because they cant seem to stay level. They always shot a straight line though. ;)

The Dewalt I linked earlier is super bright. I have no problems seeing it on our jobs. Price of admission is cheap enough to begin with.
