Not straight? How is that possible? Was the line curved?

Mirror not flat would cause this, also misshaped prism, and few other things.

Its so funny. I had no need for one of these until I saw this thread and started an install yesterday. Prepping a basement with pre-construction brackets. Lining things up on metal studs sucks. This would have helped a ton

Because of you guys I have too many tools to use.

Best purchase up to this point is the rectangular Rigid shop vac.

I use a "David White" (Home Depot, I think) brand that I've owned for years. It works reasonably well. It comes with a telescoping pole, which is a pain in the ass but essential. I wish that part of the package was designed a little better. I think a large tripod might be better.

The laser unit works well though, but the DeWalt and maybe even the Bosch, probably have more features.

I use mine for hanging front projection screens and acoustic sound panels (walls & ceilings), more than anything. It can assist in cutting in ceiling speakers (retro fit) from time to time.
Chasing Ernie's post count, one useless post at a time.

What about this Dewalt piece compared to the Bosch?

I'm still waiting for Superman x-ray vision gizmo :-)
Not seeing what's behind drywall gets annoying and in Bruce's case, very expensive :-)

Any chance in addition to seeing through drywall it might see through women's clothing?

We use this one:

It was on Gold Box for $115 a few months back. I couldn't resist....and now I don't know how I lived without.

Just FYI this is $145 now plus the Save $25 off $100 on Dewalt, so for $120......if you don't have a laser level......now's the time.

Shows up as $ 259 when I look at it. Where are you seeing $ 145.00?

So can this be used to line out in-ceiling spkrs? Like to put the horiz on a wall/ceiling joint and be able to measure off the wall once and have the line perfect for add'l speakers.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

You'll need to measure two reference points and connect the dots with the laser to ensure your line for your stuff is parallel to the wall.

So why buy a $100 laser to do that when any $30 laser will let you line up a couple marks you've made? One poster called the DeWalt an incredible time saver. Trying to figure the time savings out.
