I would like to check in with all you Denon dealers here.

Within the past 2 months I have had 5 defective DCM-380's. Sometimes right out of the box, other's would last for a couple of weeks.

Typical issues were:

-would not read discs
-would indicate no discs when tray is full
-Or would simply show an error code

Although we are a Denon dealer, I have never been really impressed with there 5 discs changers.

Have any of you seen any recenet increase in defective 380's?

Ruddy2,

The DCM cd changers have always been the #1 Denon defective category. s The only other Denon unit that we see going back for repairs more so than others are DRA-685 stereo receivers. For as long as I can remember the drive mechanism in their cd changers has always been suspect. I cannot think of any other current cd changer (except the rcc-1055 Rotel) that still incorporates transport screws. Stupid question, but I have to ask it - you or your installers are taking out the transport screws before initial powerup? Sorry, but sometimes we miss the obvious. Good luck on the ra's - I live less than 10 miles from their East Coast facility in New Jersey, so turn-around time on these repairs is usually less than2 weeks.

Ruddy2, You are not going crazy. The DCM is not worth using in any system.

Denon needs to buy a transport from another company if they can't build one in house.
Speaking of Denon, Has anyone else been having problems with the DVM 1815? I've had 3 units go down in the last month. Not too good for a over $300 dvd player.

yeah the 5-disc dvd-player is a piece of crap. My personal DCM380 has gone bad twice.

We have had 7 DVM 1815's go bad last year. It seems to be poorly designed. We will switch to Integra from now on.

Regarding the 1815's, did you ever get them repaired or get a diagnoses from a repair center?

I too have several that I have been hesitant to send in for repair, due to the fact that most likely it would cost more to repair them then to swap them out.

Yes, Yes, Yes. We've had 1 380, 3 280's, a number of multi disc dvd changers, and a couple of AVR receivers go bad in the last COUPLE OF MONTHS. We sent out the equipment with RMA's attached. The whole return process has taken over 2 months, while getting blown off by our Denon rep. I love Denon's higher end AV receivers and DVD players, but the last couple of months have been ridiculous. We're finally starting to get replacement parts now. This is not acceptable for our clients. DENON REALLY NEEDS TO GET THERE GAME TOGETHER OR THEY'RE GOING TO LOSE BUSINESS.

I get my denon stuff repair under warranty from UR. It usually takes about 2 weeks from the time I ship out, to the time I receive it back. Denon has replaced the ones that were bad out of the box. The stuff that has failed after we install them go to UR. UR does great work and repair Denon stuff under warranty, all you have to foot is the shipping cost. They also do Sony, Denon, Pioneer, Toshiba, etc.

I have never been blown off by Denon's service facility in New Jersey. They are as quick or quicker than most service centers. If vwpower is talking about United Radio in Syracuse NY (UR), I would also give them a thumbs up.

Have to say I'm a bit disappointed to read all these posts....

I've been installing these units in every multiroom system in a year. Haven't had any problems that come to mind....

Hope I'm not in for a rude awakening...

We switched to Denon because we had 90% failure of Harman Kardon FL series CD players...

Don't laugh, but I wish we could still buy Technics SLPD units. They were awesome. Mine is still going after aprox 12 years.
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...
