What on earth is the point of running 1 coax to
all the boats?

No Cat5?

People live on those stupid things. Boaters are nutcases. They park their floating hole in the water and connect the CATV. The original poster said, they'd let the owner use cell phones instead of landlines. Makes perfect sense and is very typical of boaters and RV'ers.
Diplomacy is the art of saying hire a pro without actually saying hire a pro

Sirroundsound has the right point. Without telco, not able to order pay-per-view unless call in ahead of time.

I recently finished a marina with 500 slips, and if you don't design the lay out right you are asking for problems. As far as your labor rates thats up to you. The thing that concerns me is your design. To do it properly you need to calulate your wire runs and taps to distrubute the signal properly. If your going to use all RG-6 you have 6 db of loss per 100' of wire. Using RG-11 and taps would be a better idea. Even with this design you may need to place launch amps in the design. RG-6 should only be used from the taps to the slips. Remember, at 500 to 1000' there is a big difference between ch 3 and ch 36, and it gets worse on higher channels. So do you math.

Good Luck

I agree with RG-11 with runs over 200', but disagree with a 6db loss per 100' of rg-6.
In fact, I have in the past actually taken reading at the tap, and at the splitter inside the home, and had rg-6 runs of 150' take only a 2db hit. I think allot has to do with comp fittings being applied correctly, and the cable being installed correctly. No kinks, and so on...
There is no doubt about the fact that RG-11 is the way to go for longer runs.

i know. its just not gonna happen. general who is the owner said no way. no additional costs......my ass is covered there is a part in the proposal that clearly spells out the need for rg11 and or the use of inline powered amps to anything over 200 feet....

i too have seen 200 foot drops with only 5 db drop end to end.

i think we all agree rg11 is the right way......

just need to make sure we dont shoot ourself in foot...

also more concerned that i make money on this...... the disclaimer is already there.
