Having an issue with a customers Apple TV and Benq projector. We keep getting an out of range message. The AppleTv runs into a Sony STRZA810ES from the Sony into a binary 560 extender to a Benq HT2050. Xbox one and Blu-ray play work without any issues. The Apple TV is hit or miss. All HDMI cables are binary, we tried swapping them but still get the issue. The only way to get a picture is do disconnect the cable or switch ports on the projector and then it work until the system is restarted. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

This is one of the first things I do with most sources. I’d start here as well.

I'd actually start with throwing the AppleTV at a large tree and installing a Roku.

Its a 4k AppleTV?

Apple TV's are bad enough. You should never put a 4k AppleTV on a 1080p projector.

Drop the resolution manually down to 1080p or 720p. Hope it stays....

or tell them to order a 1080p appleTV until they actually get a 4k projector.

I'd highly suggest doing the same with your advice. I use both on a regular basis and nothing about a Roku makes me think I should have one at the house.
Meanwhile, my girlfriend who has a Roku will be getting an ATV because she likes it better. As do our clients 999 to 1.

But leaving a Roku on auto resolution is no better advice than leaving an ATV in auto resolution.

Be careful. The latest firmware from Apple will make the unit bounce off of the tree and hit you in the head.

Please, don't act like ATVs are anything but overpriced, problematic pieces of sh1t. Almost everyone that goes in, comes out because they are such a pita that cause nothing but problems. Used to be an argument could be made for people that were completely entrenched in the apple ecosystem would benefit from a ATV (when it works right). Now with ATV app on a Roku, you can't even make that argument. The ONLY issue I've ever seen on any Roku ever, was the auto with 4k setting. That was it. I've had to yank so many ATVs out of cabinets to connect to clients computer to connect to their iTunes to restore it so it will work once again. The only time I'm happy to see an ATV is when it's at the business end of a sledge hammer

I have AppleTV's in 3 rooms of my house. I don't use those rooms so i actually forgot what they were like. Against my "better judgement" i bought my first Roku while living in a rental house while working in Florida about 4 years ago. We needed something to watch TV so i bought one. It's the only thing i will use now.

Maybe i am out of touch and the current Apple TV has a feature i am unaware of but the last time i was at a customers house who had Roku and Apple TV i was able to hit the Home button on the Roku but the Apple TV required a bunch of MENU MENU MENU MENU presses to back out of an app.

Amazon Fire TV is even worse. It's like the interface is an endless ad instead of just organizing content/apps.

Appletv is like old iPods. Hold down menu and it will go to the main menu. If you use a control system that doesn't have a repeat while pressed then your SOL there
