RE: Why pull two cables?

Because today you might not need it but tomorrow you might. It could be something as simple as needing to add a camera or remote gateway or it could be something bigger $. I was just doing some minor service work at a house we did 6 or so years ago. The client sold the house. New owners are taking over next week.

The first client didn't want touchscreens in the wall anywhere but we wired a Cat5 to every Lutron keypad. We have 100 lutron keypads in the home. Thats 100 extra Cat5s that can be used for new touchscreens.

Just do it. Future you will thank you.

So why would you not pull 2 cables to an AP when budget allows? We have a dual Cat6 that goes to all AP and network locations.

Roddy, whose 2cat do you use?

Why do you pull TWO cats to one WAP??

4x4 WAPs require 2 CAT in order to support 1700Mbps. Newer units have a 2.5Gbps port but that requires you to have a compatible switch.

Also, we charge .008 hours per foot of cable. That applies to rough-ins, RCA cables in a rack, HDMI cables in a wall, etc. Labor for termination is factored into the wallplate or inserts in the case of a rough-in...or the hardware it's connecting to.

Exactly.

I sometimes add some cable runs, if it's of low cost to me, and tell the client they're for the future, and don't bill them for those runs. (100 runs, no way, but four or five... yeah).
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Do your cable suppliers give you free materials because they know you don't charge for some runs?

I didn't think so. Have you determined the money lost by giving away your T&M? Goodwill gestures are very similar to a band playing for the exposure, rather than being paid.

Couldn't disagree more.

The minimal cost of a few extra wires in the correctly needed locations have saved myself, companies I worked for, and clients unnecessary future costs.

Clients are VERY appreciative when you save them from having to rip apart their house because you went above and beyond the first time.  So appreciative they will now spend the $20K it would have cost, on equipment you supply!

It's better to think it terms of the long game in our industry.
