So, I'm on the phone now for my client with DirecTV ready to cancel service. They are trying to upgrade, what a disaster DirecTV is now.
So, looking at Dish Network. It's not very widely used here in Los Angeles. The house needs 8 TV's total. 6 1080p, 2 4K TV's. Is this easily done? We have new RG6 QS to each TV. But, hoping Dish Network has small enough clients to hide behind some if the TV's (like little dtv genies).
They don't watch much sports, etc. Which seems to be ok if going to Dish Network also need multi room viewing DVR. Seems to look like Dish is decent on all these area. Am I missing anything? Still on hold with DTV retention Dept, ready to cancel!!

UPDATE: I just cancelled DTV after the client has been a DTV customer for over 25 years. The customer retention dept said they could only do wireless clients for a few all couldn't be hardwired. I said you're full of it and cancelled the service.
Client is going to post on Twitter (pic of all the DTV equipment in a trash can)

My questions are:
How many coax are needed to Dish?
How does the multi room viewing work, if any different from other systems. I ask because I remember coming across a Dish system that had second room connected via coax or something....Not sure how it works now.
I'll have 6 standard receivers (1080p) with the need for RF control of the STB (receivers will hide behind the TV's on most). That leads to the next question, the actual size of the 1080p STB's. I don't want to install a large back box to hide STB.
Also 2-4K receivers to a Media Room (new 98" Sony!! Woo Hoo) and Family Room systems.
Integration, IP Control or just ir?
Any helpful hints on ordering service, installation, etc would be helpful.

Dish can handle that easy. Integration is better. Sports is catching up but still an issue for the die hard football fan

Hopper3 and 4kJoeys.

If you can get setup with the Concierge service. It takes a bit of doing but once your in you get a great level of service.

The hardware is way better, the integration is great, the customer service is exceptional.

We are in the CI program and get top notch service...like call the dish guys that usually come out, call them at 3pm and they are onsite next morning getting us setup.
I think it took Us a couple of phone calls and some paperwork to get started.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

Dish currently has the best equipment as well as "user experience" for Sat providers.

I was a DTV fan for a number of years.
We were even a "retailer partner" for a few years.

I HAD DTV at my own home until 2017 when I gave up and switched to DISH!

I'm impressed with the hopper3/joey equipment and control is solid.

Only paying for one DVR with six joeys that act just like a DVR is far better than the three DVR's and four clients with ZERO pause,FFWD,or RWD on live tv is a game changer!

AND........I can watch different chanels on all seven tv's!(rare, but it happens on a good weekend when friends stay over!"
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Then there is the ability to do 4 videos on PIP, I know this is possible on the Hopper unit, not sure about the Joey's though.

And like I've mentioned in other threads. You have the option to plug in a Ethernet cable instead of the standard coax cable into the Joey's. That is if the Hopper 3 is plugged in or wifi to the same network. You could even purchase the wifi dongle on eBay and plug it into the USB port on the Joey and connect it via wifi.

The Joeys are SUPER slim. You can fit them anywhere you want.

Dish wins, HANDS down.

How is DISH in bad weather?
I know DTV used to cut out here during a rainstorm.

It's about the same.
I live in the Pacific NW so rain is a given.

The only time either provider lost signal involved a huge storm!

99.9% of the time, everything was fine.

I guess its come a long way since I had it. A light rainstorm would knock it out.

Thanks

It is a matter of physics. Nothing has changed. The frequency of the Ku & Ka bands have a wavelength that interact with water molecules in the atmosphere. When enough water molecules are in place, the attenuation of the microwave energy is greater than the gain of the receptive antenna. A larger antenna would gather more signal. But with a large storm front, there simply is not enough signal getting thru; you would need a dish several meters across in size. There is also an electro-phenomenon with an approaching storm front, this combined with the water molecules is what causes the condition known as 'rain fade'. Here is an article:
[Link: en.wikipedia.org]

It should have been obvious to you back then. If a light rain storm was knocking out your signal constantly, then someone did a crappy job installing the dish. They did not have it peaked out. Any damage to the dish would also make it impossible to peak out.
We are talking millimeters here! I love it when people say "my dish is fine and they lined it up perfect. Satellite just sucks". BS! You can not even noticed when a dish is slightly 'out-of-round' and maybe causing problems. The antennas are made out of the thinnest metal imaginable these days, they damage very easily. And these stupid installers these days, throw them 1/2 assembled in the back of their vans getting knocked around all day. It is a wonder ANY of the f^ things work right.

Anyway. Point being = satellite signal does NOT get knocked out easily. It takes a pretty good storm front to cause problems (it does NOT have to be raining for this to occur). If someone is having rain fade issues all the time, then the dish is probably not peaked out. If the dish is peaked out, then high loss in the distribution system could be a problem. Or a defective dish could be the problem (again, seeing this more these days from the cheap dishes and stupid installers).

As Brad mentioned, the dish does need to be aligned/peaked out to function properly.

I was kind of impressed with my Dish installer overall (rare from my 25+years in this biz!)

As soon as he left,I grabed my BirdDog USB+ and checked his alignment at the dish.

It was dialed in!!!!!

I think I got lucky!

Years ago,DTV was the best.
Especially if you were doing distributed A/V.

I cringed everytime I had to deal with the old Dish DVR recievers with the second modulated "channel 3 out" BS when the client bought a new TV and wondered why the picture was worse than the main out.

Those days are long gone.

Dish stepped up to the plate and currently SMOKES anything DTV has to offer!

Normaly,I'd be reluctant to say that but I'm living with it in my own home and I'm pretty hard to impress when it comes to sat equipment.

You'll be impressed overall!

On a side note, tell Spencer hello for me.
I miss working with him!
