I want the old blue app back... the one that works and looks just like the current PC GUI... (at least I think it’s still current, maybe it changed too?)

That was definitely the best looking and easiest navigable app they had.

MAKE THE RIBBON STATIC!!!!

Why is this such a difficult task. I designed user interfaces for people for years. Making something as important as "My Sonos","Browse", "Rooms", "Search" and Settings not static is stupid. This is the first thing they teach you in UI design. quick easy navigation and less button presses will provide the best user interface. If the ribbon at the bottom of the app was static, it would be great...but sometimes it is there and sometimes not. I have been getting calls all day long since this update happened and people are not happy....not happy at all. We have been on the Sonos bandwagon since 2005 and this app is complete garbage. We are in the busiest time of the year, and we are having to take time away from our scheduled installs to show people how to work the new app.

Also, requiring the password to add a zone player to a system is stupid. My customers can't remember their WiFi password much less their Sonos password. Yesterday and today, it took me 2 hours to add four pieces to an existing system we did not do, and it took and hour to a ONE Connect amp. All systems we didn't do, all done by either the customer or another integrator. All meant that I was late picking up my kids from daycare and getting yelled at by literally everyone.

Sadly, I have talked to two other local dealers having the same problems. Is this the beginning of the end for Sonos???????

All they really have to do is just not suck....everything else is in place...so annoying....the password thing is really stupid.

Which you don't have to do since it's for MUSIC. Not everyone wants one app and not everyone wants control of thermostat, lights, or anything else. Fact is that people are used to using different apps for everything. They'll use one for banking, one for calendar, one for recipes, one to tell them fart jokes. Most people don't care if they have to go to Sonos app for music and Lutron app for lights.

I got a Blusound player to demo from my rep yesterday. Initial impressions are fantastic. I really like the APP, almost like the original blue sonos app. simple, straight forward and easy to use. Integrates in just fine with C4.

The sound quality difference is staggering. Night in day ABing between sonos (set to the highest quality) I made sure I was using CD quality and not Lossless on Tidal for a fair comparison. I have it for a week, will report back with what I find. The only problem is there is no Pandora which will be a deal breaker for most. I understand why they are not offering it but it seems a little silly considering it has Bluetooth and Tune IN. (horrible streaming quality)

I haven't had a single call from customers struggling to use the new app - and I figured it out quickly.

The question is why? WTF did it improve?

I went to a Clare Controls training recently and they claimed that Sonos had provided their development team with an API last month in order to give their app full control of Sonos.

The PC controller is still blue and I prefer this to the pad/phone controllers. Unfortunately, there is a vocal segment of the user base that wants the blue controller to look and behave more like an Apple product. I'm annoyed that the Apple expats cannot grasp the Queue concept. SONOS responded to this by implementing the "play from here" feature that totally frustrates me because I am a track by track person and the former Queue functionality was perfect for me. Yes, I know that I can add a single track to the Queue, but this requires another operation.

I haven't had any calls about the app but I did have a conversation with one of my clients who has a large sonos system about how awful the app is. He is very tech savvy and it isn't that he couldn't figure it out, just how clunky it is now and what a huge step backwards it is. The way it was set up had an intuitive flow, the current version makes you stop and think "how do I do this".

And I agree with what other posters have mentioned, the OG app (PC GUI) was about the best one. Another client of mine has an old Sonos system with a couple of the little handheld touchscreen Sonos remotes. They still have the old GUI, I forgot how nice those are to use, was diagnosing a network issue there a few weeks ago.

The way Sonos was is kind of like Tivo. They somehow hit a home run with their interface. When you can install something for a 60+ year old, non tech savvy person and with a minimum of training they are off and running, that means you have done well. When you have to explain in detail how to do things and you get callbacks because they forgot how it works, then you have failed.
I am a trained professional..... Do not attempt this stunt at home.

We obviously deal with a different customer base and have different philosophies when it comes to integration. We very rarely deal with folks that just want music in a couple rooms. People around here, who are OK with Sonos based music, just do it themselves for that kind of thing.

Like Impact said, depends on customer. Every one of my customers wants 1 app to control all and if it's just music, many buy Sonos and do it themselves.

I think it hilarious the guys promoting multi-apps.

This is no different than the coffee table with 5-6 remotes laying on it. Sure it works fine but with a lot more steps and frustration; especially when you hit a wrong button or can't remember/figure out how to do it (sound recently familiar?).
That is the whole point of selling a universal remote with a control system. Of course I have seen a dealer or two on here promoting that as well (no control system - and we're not talking 1 source bedroom setup). Pathetic! I feel sorry for their customers.
Having a custom app, programmed to take care of multiple tasks, is the exact same thing.

The biggest problem we face today, unlike 1-way IR commands, 2-way apps are a moving target. The equipment or service we are trying to control can (and does) change all the time. Making it very frustrating. I blame this on the manufacture & service providers for the 'hack' of BS they throw out at the public. Things can update, things can improve, but most of the time it doesn't mean the backend has to be broken to accomplish this. It is the crappy programmers and software engineers these companies have, that are the source of the problem.
