Back on Android as well. Guess it was an error. I did not update so I am wondering if this has more to do with Pandora. I find it hard to believe that Sonos allows that level of control in their interface that Pandora could change anything, but I don't know. I don't recall ever seeing a change in the Sonos app without an update.

Sonos have never been about reacting. I've used it as a Source for years. It has done a decent job of providing streaming services into a system. I will NEVER rely on it to provide the primary user interface into a system... because I have ZERO control over it and Ultimately, when a client gets confused because Sonos changes the app 5 times in 6 years, its my fault.

Alexa interfaces with my Control4 and Savant systems. Its a passable secondary interface for some folks.

of course, it still plays at my home as well. But we have the benefit of working with different products every day. We [hopefully] have some patience when it comes to user interfaces.

You have NO control over your C4 interface either. If you aren't selling all RTI or Crestron, then that argument holds no water.

then why are so many people complaining right now?

Because people don't like change, obviously. Everything works 100% as it always has. People simply don't like HOW you get it to work. That does not change the fact that it DOES work and better than any other streaming system available.

His friend probably had a Sonos system.

No, his friend probably had a shit ass installer, which is evidenced by the fact that he said he had volume controls in the wall AND control of volume from his app. He very well could have had Crestron, Control4, Savant, ______________ (fill in the blank) and he would have had the same results if his installer was shit. Even more so with those products.

"Control" is not the same thing as Customizing the GUI.

While I will concede that I cannot customize the interface, I know Control4 is not going to start changing the interface every 6 months. I know that if it is changing, I will have a heads up, and I know that if a major change does occur, existing systems can absolutely stay right where they are at and not be forced to update. When OS 2.6 came out a few years ago, Even though the ap did not change dramatically, C4 still took the route of creating a new app rather than force everyone to update. I still have plenty of systems in the field happily running 2.5.3 (And earlier even) that felt zero impact when Control4 came out with new software. Heck, I just updated a system yesterday that was still running 1.7.4 with Embernet Zigbee devices and V2 Remotes.

Similar boat with Savant.. who, even though they did play musical GUI for a couple years, did not force folks to update their app. I still have a system out there running version 4 software with Logitech Squeezboxes providing audio. that hasnt been supported in years... But it still works.

And yet the new terrible Sonos app is still easier to use than those apps. Hmmm

I really like the new UI. It's not as good as it was years ago, but the workflow ribbon on the bottom brings clarity where before you were just guessing (if you had never used the UI before). I feel like it explains itself to new users a lot better than it used to. I agree it is Apple-esque in the oversimplification but many people's brains work that way.

I think I'd that made that ribbon static so it is always there, it would help a lot. The fact it disappears can confuse people. In most cases a swipe down brings you back to it, but keeping it static would be best IMHO.

I lost a job to a client who was all set to sign, until he asked his friend at the last minute his thoughts on the system and his friend slammed the system and just short of slamming ME because HE hired a company that didn't meet his expectations and left him with a system with decent equipment that was setup quickly, poorly, and messy. I couldn't get the sale after this, no matter what.

Damn...that story makes *MY* blood boil... lol

You can apologize to Sonos now for jumping to conclusions.

I want the old blue app back... the one that works and looks just like the current PC GUI... (at least I think it’s still current, maybe it changed too?)
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.
