Curious about how they sound, install, look. We have been selling Sonance for so long, I'm just curious how Triad would stand up.

Any feed back would be great.

They sound great, very flat response.
But you need to be aware, they need a subwoofer with just about any configuration. There are very few setups that the main speakers can stand-alone and give you a "Full" sound. The frequency response you see listed is accurate but rolls-off sharply below the F3 point.
Only the larger speakers (or the cheaper in-ceiling without back boxes) can play low enough to not really need a sub.

Just got testing out the new outdoor speakers (OD25). They sound awesome and can really jam but I was disappointed they also need a sub to fill them out. They lose a lot under 70Hz. This will be very different from the sound you are use to getting from Sonance and a lot of other outdoor speakers like this.

The sub thing is probably their way of making you do it right. If a typical speaker's six inch driver responds to LFE it's going to be abused or distorted once given any substantial volume, so it insures performance and their subs do sound great. Everything except the cheapest round in-ceilings are sealed enclosures. I love Triad it's been my rock since day one of my going solo with my integration service. Staff there is terrific. They really take care of you and give it the feel of a small hometown business.

We dropped Triad several years ago due to being shopped and some equipment failures. They have a huge following on AVS and AVS sells them sometimes heavily discounted. Since we do mostly projector systems we deal with a lot of enthusiasts. We had a number of drivers needed to be replaced and a sub amp.

I will say I like their performance and all their speakers but their in ceiling rounds all have enclosures. Although, we had a few problems their service was excellent and that goes a long way in my book. We did speak to them about being shopped but it didn't change anything. I think AVS probably does a fair amount of Triad and are unlikely to cut them off as a dealer.

If you don't deal with enthusiasts this probably won't be an issue. When we dropped Triad we picked up Paradigm. We looked at Sonance but at the time didn't have as many options and didn't have models with enclosures like their current Home Theater/ Cinema line. To me currently that would make Triad a bit of a lateral move for most applications. If you are doing more high end like the Triad Platinum and Cinema Reference series than it might be a worth while switch. Currently we use Genelec for higher end installs for situations Paradigm doesn't cover.

I LOVE Triad speakers and have loved them for years. I've not been in a position to use them until recently, and then only for one system, though.

This might be a bad moment to be asking the question, however, since the owner just sold the company to Control4.

It's impossible to tell if the new owners will support the brand as well as the guy who started the company and put his life into it. I think we've all seen this kind of ownership transferral result in a lowering of quality.

One thing to think about, though, is that we had reports here of all the Control4 and Triad reps being fired within days of the sale. A lot of people use the word "disruptive" when they mean "new and different." This kind of change looks like it cannot help but be "disruptive" in the old sense, that is, destructive to established ways of doing things, with resulting uncertainty about what's to be.

Who wants to buy product from a company that has just made such drastic changes and who has no track record AT ALL with understanding how to efficiently serve their client base with some new way of doing things? I say give it a year. Sorry, Triad.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

They don't sell directly on their website or forum. You have to call them and they ship to you. People on the forum will call AVS and typically they have given good discounts.

Triads are great. We use them for most of our theaters and anything custom we need. Two recent custom projects are recreating existing speakers. On an antique boat where someone used focal car audio speakers previously we are having replica boxes made by triad with better speakers plus adding a bunch of subs. At a project where a client had old YBA speakers that have an angle. We are having Triad make speakers that have boxes with an angle because the client thinks the slight angle makes them look better. I have put in a bunch of the unsealed rounds also. I like that they come with round and square grills so i can choose which ones to use on site.

We have been Sonance dealers for decades. Love the products and love the company. I spent last week installing 48 6" landscape speakers and half of the 10 12" subwoofers. 8 DSP amps to drive them. I think this system is going to rock.
