I have a client looking to control or supply music from a main store to several satellite stores which consist of single zone background music applications. They don't want local control or input. My solution consisted of an elan piece over a commercial amp using Sirius or Pandora for source at each location. Was just curious if there a was a better commercial solution that I wasn't aware of.

Grade digital XM radio _> Commercial AMP (with local power switch)-> speakers.
You can remotely control and lock the radio. stations, times, access level.

Will the client be creating the programming or a playlist? Just how far away are these satellite stores? Are we talking about multiple buildings on the same street or at large distances?

You could do something with the network- Dante Net and two Symetrix processors

They are all local locations (within 50 miles). They just want a music source where they control the content as far as what is playing. Their current setup besides being not legal allows the workers to jack in their phones and play whatever (which is usually content they aren't in agreement with). The grace digital solution looks perfect. I was not aware Sirius had that portal control. The Elan solution just struck me as way over kill for what they were looking to accomplish. Thanks to everyone for the replies

Are the computers of these stores interconnected? What's the possibility of sending audio over the store network? You know, in little packets like data?

I'll have to check on that Ernie. I was approached by the client at a home and garden show and chatted with them briefly. I have a meeting set up this week at their main facility to discuss more details. Just trying to get a leg up on which direction to take the conversation when it comes to control and distribution.

Fry's in Southern California used to play some kind of piano background music. One day I was at one of their stores and I heard the music coming from a phone, perfectly synchronized with the music from their speakers. Turns out it was MOH from another one of their stores. All the stores played the same music. I always assumed it was done with their satellite interstore network.

I have designed a system that uses a pandora radio to feed about 30 rooms using dante. I am using RDL-SF-NP40D and the companion SF-BNC2 for the input. Are there other dante products that are similar in price or features?

You've got a question now about a specific brand, Dante. You might get more responses if you start a new thread with the name Dante in the title.
People who see that this is an old thread might pass it by just because it's old.

Dante isn't a brand, it's a protocol Ernie.

Oops. The suggestion is still worthwhile: it's a good idea to start a new thread. Everyone who scans the thread titles would then see Dante instead of just seeing multi building audio.

I used this thread because it was relevant with Dante and multibuilding/ multiroom applications. I could start another if it would make you feel better. Dante was the net protocol for use with this design, but if there was another net protocol with encode/decode/control that is somewhat standard like Dante, I am all ears.

There are some off the shelf Dante transmitters and receivers from RD Labs that just came out.
I don't know the model numbers but so long as you can configure them as a network appliance you should be able to go Room to room and or building.
