I've been using these dandy remotes and have a question on DragonDrop. The 2nd tier programming is understood, but what is the shift-Tier 1 and shift-Tier 2 command, and how is it used?

Thanks!

you can make a button shift ALL the buttons to either teir one or two. comes in handy when you have to press multiple buttons on teir 2 (like if the cursor is programed under teir 2)

OK, so do you add a shift tier 2 command to some button on the remote or are you adding that command to a macro to enable tier 2??

Does this help with the problem of DVDs and whether to use the cursor commands or play/stop/pause commands there? How do you handle that?

Thanks!!

They added a shift indicator by addressing one of the LED's at the top when it is "shifted". You should see the looks on customer's faces when you try to explain it to them! I believe the "channel up" and "channel down" are the most logical to assign the functions, but I think you can assign any pair of buttons to act as the shift buttons. Yes, it technically solves the problem with the DVD players, TIVO's, ect. Here's to hoping they're working on a new hand held.

I've used these for sometime now and we generally use shift tier on the dvd functions by having the cursor commands on teir one (as the dvd menu is generally the first thing you have to navigate) then put shift tier two under the volume commands to switch to transport commands. The n we use the enter button to revert back to tier one.
Fantastic remotes but we do have to give written driving instructions but once our customers grasp the basics they wouldn't be without them.
Use them in conjuction with xantech's mac 1 and you can acheive almost anything.

or you can use the handy templates they give you to stick on the remote for the play, pause ,etc. No written instructions needed.

Oh yeah, Make the "power" be the all off.

OK, so you use volume or channel up to take you to tier 2. Do you make the 3 second push of one of those the shift button?

I've used the stick ons for transport, but then you've got those pretty transport buttons in the middle of the thing that just ought to do what they say...

For VCRs you don't need two tiers. Do you put VCR transport commands on tier 2 for uniformity, or do you just say, "no, you only have to do that for the DVD"?

Yeah, I like power to do all off as well.

When you shift tiers, only the curser and surrounding buttons shift. All other buttons require you to hold down a button for one second or more to activate the tier 2 function.

Hopefully the "URC-3" will address these issues. Whenever that comes around.

Definetly leave the teir two for uniformity!

I always give both options-- one being the stick on templates and one being teir two. The latter is for when the in-laws come over to babysit and can't make the darn DVD play.

Now tell me again how to shift to tier 2 and back. I tried yesterday to put a shift tier 2 command on channel up and shift tier 1 command on channel down in the dvd mode but got no response from leds or commands. What am I missing?

Should of worked. check to be sure the commands are there in the command list. don't forget that this only works for the cursor keys.

Also you might put shift-teir 1 command under the source button to be shure that when you push the DVD source button, the remote will default to teir1. "If this is not done, the unit will default to normal push and hold operation". (taken from instruction booklet)
