Nope, can't do that; you don't deserve it.

OEX, do the black wire on the middle switch and
the red wire on the right switch both enter the
same cable? My guess is 'yes', in which case
the entire cable feeds the fan box; check inside
its canopy.

nope

These days, standard fan/light units are wired
with two switched hots, one (usually the black)
for the fan motor and one (usually the red) for
the light kit. Fans with remotes only need a
single hot.

my fan has both a fan and up/down lighting...however, it has one switch (in the center of the three gang box) that controls it's juice. All functions are controlled via this crappy RF remote that I can do nothing cool with!

Single-pole switches are labeled 'on' and 'off'
on the toggle handle, and have two terminals (not
counting the grounding screw), while three-ways
are not so marked, and have three terminals.

yes, I know this. the Eagle in question has these markings, but this is something I just noticed upon further investigation in the daylight! They have two gold terminals, no silver...both single poles in this box (fan and mystery) are like this
It sounds like the Eagle switch you described
may be a dimmer, or may be illuminated, and may
have an extra, silver terminal for a neutral wire
for the built-in light. Any markings on the back?

see above...bad light! no silver, two gold, and no unsual markings on the back other than the standard don't use aluminum, only copper, blah blah
Quick lesson: The term 'traveler' is used for
the pair of wires that interconnect three-way
switches. 'Switched leg' refers to a switched
hot that feeds a connected receptacle or fixture.

I knew this, I was just confused, cause as OEX pointed out, I am used to seeing red as a traveler, and blacks as hots...not a mixture...

ok...

after further investigation of this mystery switch...here is what I have found...

no receptacle on the entire floor is affected by it.

when I disconnet red and black from the switch, I get constant, almost non-fluctuating 65Vac

when I re-connect it, and play with the switch, I get 65-70, then 0

it is NOT affected by the switch in the garage as I originally thought

every other switch and load are accounted for

the red and black from the same wire come into this switch, the white is wired into the rest of the common whites in the box

when I flip this switch, nothing happens...anywhere, and like I said, it has only 65vac on it...

I have one more thing to test, then I'm shutting off my main breaker, and grabbing a sawzall!

It's my fault. I'm your next door neighbor, and I'm stealing your electricity using my special patented ac voltage magnetic induction sucking device. You caught me. Now give me back my coil transformer.
I'm just a sheep in wolf's clothing...

Avdude,
Is the 65-70V, to ground, neutral, or both?
very strange!

Okay, now armed with this info, and having re-read your original post . . .

What is the question??

Oh, wait; I hadn't read the stuff on page two yet.

Okay, it sounds like the voltage is about half of line-to-neutral, so maybe there are two lights in series somewhere, burning half-bright. No?

no.

this switch controls nothing I have found yet.

no cans.

no switched outlets.

nothing in the house...

haven't checked my outdoor outlets yet...on that this afternoon.

presents 65-70Vac no matter how I test it...red to ground or black to ground...or red to black...

Why exactly do we need to find this info out? Save the $$$ and don't put the debacle du jour on the RadioRA system. MHO

OEX....can you honestly tell me that you, as a seasoned professional, would let this go in your own house?

Customer's house where it clearly didn't affect the system, and you got bottom line to worry about, sure slap in a decora switch and call it good...your house? Bet you're ripping out drywall to see what some idiot did before you showed up!

THAT'S why we (read, I ) need to find this info out...I don't know, and it's an unacceptable ego slap!

It's actually pissin me off slightly. Something is definately miswired - 65VAC. Sometihng done in series and connected. Have you tried acking your neighbors, if all the homes are the same, what that switch does in their place? Worth a shot - and no I would not let it ride in my shack either.
No luck on toning it? Tone with the red and black

70 vlots, I'd be thinking that something is on a dimmer circuit. 70 volts wouldn't be considered " low voltage"
