Thanks for your input. So I'll sum this up:
URC total control. =
+ No more screen size problems.
+ faster programming

- very dependent on reliable network $$$
- not a customizable as Rti (make my own buttons,TV network logos etc)
- I must relearn a new system

Rti
+ I do what I want, very customizable

- endless hours of programming when new screen size appears
I'm I missing anything?

I don't know if RTI forums are active, but that might be a comparison? URC forums are pretty active and regularly visited by URC employees.

URC tech support is responsive as well. Not always right, lol, but there when needed.

Not that RTI cares or looks at these threads but I called RTI tech support yesterday and waited 9 minutes on the phone before finally choosing to leave a message for a tech to call me back.

I'm still waiting...kind of like how we are always waiting for them to release their product.

I've rarely waited more than 5 minutes to get a URC tech support person.

RTI needs to wake their asses up and start changing the way they do business!!

We sell TC systems and are 100% URC committed. So I can't speak for anything else. I am not aware of currently any limitations to what the TC system can't do.They have a new flex software that allows more customization of GUI but I think it may be a train wreck at this point. It is not Crestron by no means. But it is one heck of control system. I have a customer who we got the bid to to their lake house. His neighbor has crestron. Looking forward to getting his thoughts on the comparison of the system with 200,000 price difference.

We shall see

You should mark it up $200,000 to make it more comparable.

HA HA! No kidding. I had no Idea how much the neighbor spent originally. The total Bid for my client with TC was around 100,000. It wasn't until He saw the price that he mentioned how much his neighbor spent. I can't comment on What all the neighbor even did in his home. I do however know that they are friends and they will both compare systems and I am looking forward in the response.

I can't speak much for total control, all control systems have their advantages and limitations. I'm a soon to be former Crestron dealer, and do mainly Rti these days with Urc for one room systems.

I've found that with Rti, I try to keep the interfaces the same in the system and it makes programming much simpler. Also, I do a ton of system macros, even volume commands, so when an IR code is buggy, I can fix it once and just re use it system wide.

You will get a dozen different opinions on this, a few will be wrong. I like Rti, I can make it do what ever I want. Every time I try to make a change in my Crestron system it seems like it takes me hours to make it properly.

Total control seems like control4 to me in that you need to live in its comfort zone, which is far from a bad thing In Some cases, the client just needs to be made aware of its limitations up front.

Now if Rti would just get a working sonos driver I would be a bit happier.

Good luck with the decision.

Its like I wrote this. Great minds think alike.

Amen Nez. I'm with ya. Although, I haven't heard Flex is a trainwreck. I don't use it. Havent had the need.

That said, I do indeed gulp the TC kool aid, but with good, proven reason.

RTI has been geared to be more like crestron in the custom realm as far as GUI design goes. Design whatever the hell you want. Savant, control4, urc are more what you see is what you get. They are specifically designed to have premade layouts. Adding a music server....drag and drop the premade interface in. Wanna change it too bad. So sure it's faster. But not as customizable. So you realize this walking in. RTI realizes people want both. So with apex they are going to offer this. Best of both worlds. Personally I like rti stuff over urc not even considering the programming aspect. Just the actual hardware options. Then add apex which will come by the end of the year and to me it's a pretty cut and dry choice. RTI over urc. There is always those quick jobs where you wanna get in and out and don't need a crazy custom interface. But having the option to have it when you do need it is awesome.

I don't remember what the minimum annual purchasing $$ requirement was, but it means that if RTI has a product that's better for some of your clients than URC's offerings, they won't get the better product. "It's the best thing for you, and I happen to have tons of it in the back room." That's a BAD approach to product selection!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Dude.....why didn't you call me?

I can beat their tech support times by far, if we have not done it on RTI, it can't be done....I like to chat anyway !

I figured it out, I think. Will know tomorrow at deploy.

I figured you had your hands full with three babies lol.

But we should chat soon. Plan this drive to Texas, shoot hogs, drive to Mario, shoot ourselves, drive to Grand Canyon, shoot the coyotes, drive to Vegas and shoot the tourist..... thing.

Dave will only go now if Brendon's mom drives :(-

Where did you get all the details of apex?
And when is it coming out?
