Always used several long Tapcons myself.

At least 8 total for the average PDP. Never had a problem.

I HAVE mounted Buicks to walls with red Heads....along with a few thousand plasma's.

I never understood why people think those plastic things would hold up anything.....I wouldn't use them to mount a small picture!
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

3"+ Tapcons. 4 usually for flat mounts. Maybe 6 for larger TVs.

Did a 65" articulating with 6 5" Redheads. Hung off the mount and it didn't budge. Job done.

Read the specs on the mounting hardware, drill holes straight without wobbling the bit and don't over-torque. And no backing out and then putting it back in again.

This goes for all bolts always.

And no backing out and then putting it back in again.

These are specifically made to do something to the threads and the mounted-in material (brick, etc) when being screwed in.  If you take one out, throw the screw away and see if you can use a different hole, too.  At least use a different hole if you tighten and the bolts spin!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Good call Ernie. Just for the record, the client did not use plastic anchors. He used these:

I found the Redhead anchors. I have used those in concrete and really like them, I just didn't know what the propper name for them was.

Thanks again, Craig

So Craig, did he say it was your fault?

These work very well, if like anything else they are used properly. I have hung very large plasmas on cantileaver mounts and never had a problem.

Ditto. Drill the right size hole straight and clean. Take a straw, insert to bottom of hole and blow. Cover eyes and spit.

I use Redheads... We just hung two older 58" Panny Plasmas in a locker room on cinder block on tilt mounts.

That's the scary part for me. What if you had touched it or gone near it? I have had someone elses anchors try pop out on me when trying to adjust tilt. This is something we should be aware of and have provisions for from a liability standpoint.

Seen it multiple times myself.

Should Tapcons go into brick, or the mortar? Most commonly, I see them in the mortar. I've only used them in poured concrete, no trouble if the hole is hammer drilled much deeper than the depthof the screw. Trouble, if not deep enough.

I use tapcons or anchors. I put tapcons into the brick not the mortar. If the client want's to keep the brick "safe" i epoxy concrete anchors into the mortar. Drill the hole, clean out the hole, squeeze epoxy in the hole, insert anchor and tap the pin to expand the back (holds it in tight). The anchors let me use machined lag bolts to hold the mount.

Anytime i find something mounted incorrectly i fix it. Every hotel room im in i fix the towel & TP hardware because its always falling out of the wall. I carry all sorts of fasteners in my car. I fix something at someones house at least once a week. By the time i die most of the Chicago area will have everything mounted securely.

C'mon guys...25-30 x 1.5" drywall screws will safely affix ANY mount plate to ANY wall.
