use IP to control the H/HR boxes. it works VERY reliably on a robust network

That would be no different than using the Dtv remote on Rf and a separate remote for everything else.

I have my HR34 receiver in another room running through a Yamaha 673 surround and an Epson 8350 projector.

The DTv remote has trouble with the Epson so I have a Harmony One remote for everything. I use a Sewell IR repeater for the stereo and Dtv in the back room.

The problem is the Dtv doesn't seem receive a correct signal from the IR repeater.

I have searched endlessly and it seems there is no way to get an emitter to work.

im not talking about using an app or another remote. i assumed you were using a remote/control system capable of controlling devices via ip. we use ip via crestron, rti, and pro control. all work flawlessly.

i have also controlled a dozen HR boxes including the HR34 with IR with no problems whatsoever. not sure what your issue could be.

did you switch the DirecTV receiver from RF to IR in the setup menu?

The Harmony remote works fine when pointed straight at the receiver.

The problem comes from going through a Sewell IR emitter like this:

I've read the emitters that stick on the eye can overpower the Dtv box.
I bought a Xantech 28adj control to turn down the emitter output but it still doesn't work.

I would love an RTI or similar control but just can't justify having to proffesionally have it programmed any time there is a problem or change.

I just want DTV to fix the lag time/response time problem before they start coming up with any new technology. I love programming favorites that never work. Hit Guide, wait 10 seconds. Once they fix this, They will become my favorite for sure.

i've had to place the emitter a few inches away from the IR receiver on DirecTV boxes back when we used Niles IR repeaters.

I've been researching different ideas with the suggestion by edizzle of using IP type control.

I have an Ipad and there is an Ipad app by RTI that uses IP.

Has anyone set one of these up?

What would I need to set up this system?

You don't have to have an Ipad for IP control....that is done through the processor, but this is all moot seeing you want to do it yourself.
