Has anyone gotten this to work? The DirecTV HR34 has an IR input jack, which has a schematic on the back panel that is labeled as such : tip = +5V (100 mA max), center barrel = Data IN (modulated), and barrel base = ground.

The setup is KURO 141 - using the native IR sensor- to Xantech 791-44 block.

Ive had to resort to using a flasher on the front of the unit, was really excited about using the rear panel input.

did you try stripping the carrier frequency from the code before you sent it to the HR34?

No, just using the DTV remote on it at present.

yes, assuming a mono plug is providing signal and ground, and a stereo plug all three

It sounds to me like you plugged a mono cable into the HR34. That definitely will not work. It needs to be mono at the Xantech side and stereo at the HR34.

N/C -> Stereo Tip
Mono tip -> Stereo Ring
Mono Sleeve -> Stereo Sleeve

You saw the schematic, and you even copied it for us here, but you didn't think about it to follow it.

A mono plug has a tip and a sleeve. A stereo plug has a tip, and the part of the plug that is just sleeve on a mono plug is divided into the ring, in the middle, and the sleeve, furthest from the tip.

That schematic is for thinking about. It says that the tip has five volts on it. Thus a mono plug, where you put the signal on the tip, won't work. Luckily, it won't hurt that the mono plug's sleeve shorts together the ring and sleeve connections of the stereo jack.

So, thinking about the schematic, you need a stereo plug where the sleeve is ground, the ring is your IR signal, and the tip isn't connected at all.

A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

It's crazy that they (a company who really could care less about us) actually put the IR schematic on the back panel; when have you ever seen that!?!?!

Anyone have a pic of this?

actually I tried the stereo plug first, per the schematic, and it didnt work :) I was asked if I had tried just signal and ground, and replied I had tried a mono plug....I can see how you misinterpreted my reply:)

Its interesting that the xantech schematic for the 791-44 shows it passes only signal and ground at the emitter jack, so I would need to get 5V to the tip somehow?

Love it, but the HD GUI is still on the bench for it,( even though it is available to the lower models ) no word when it will be available :(

I beg to differ slightly. You stated that you used a mono plug, but you used the ring and sleeve of a stereo plug. That doesn't make the stereo plug into a mono plug. I did not misinterpret what you wrote.

Its interesting that the xantech schematic for the 791-44 shows it passes only signal and ground at the emitter [OUTPUT] jack, so I would need to get 5V to the tip somehow?

Let's back up.
The 791-44 provides emitter OUTPUTS, so only needs signal and ground, which are at the tip and ring, respectively.  No emitter needs a connection to a DC voltage.

But the HR-34 INPUT is designed to power an IR sensor and take the IR signal out of that sensor and put it into the HR-34. Thus 5 volts is provided to power a sensor. The ring carries the IR signal into the HR-34 and the sleeve is the ground.

(I just realized, though, that all the sensors I've ever used work with 12 volts, so I don't know what sensors DirecTV has in mind.)
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
