I wonder if you can use the P-MNETGW from Prodigy in a Crestron system. I know most other things you can't (without a workaround), but they seem to be exactly the same. I'm guessing, however, that they've probably tweaked the firmware so that this is not possible. :(

CJ

It's not possible. The black box has been tweaked in several places to prevent this from happening. Even if there were a workaround to this I wouldnt suggest posting it in a public forum. Ask the same question in the verified section of IP and the answer may or may not be any different.

Prodigy? It was swept over to AVAD and all the direct Prodigy only dealers got dumped......and then it just ended. All the Prodigy is on the AVAD disco list.

Long live Control4.

Don't see any Prodigy items marked as disco in their database. What's your source? C4 Fanboy?

I believe that within a year it will go away. That said, it is a great value, particularly if programmed in Simpl. PLX3/PMC3 offers a price point that will blow away any bid with C4. Add in 6x4 switcher, PIDOCV, Squeezebox or MMS and you have an DA system priced to move and upsell portential to autiomation. Programming ought to be based on template much like C4. It would take a 1-2 hours for this system to be programmed.

You have the memory for iPads and iPhones to stream from the processor. You have OSD if you have to compete with that horrid C4 remote and OSD--but why would you when the PLX3 easily displays text from ipods, iTunes and streaming audio.

Sell C4 or don't. Do what ever you can to make money and survive. But Prodigy is a great value, even when you only need to control a few TVs or do a small apartment DA system. Let's not forget that it's also half the size of a C4 system which is not insignificant in an apartment. If you have a basement it's moot. Full Crestron is not that much more if you have to move to a HDMI solution. I don't care how many Key Digital or Atlona switchers C4 dealers sell, they don't do what DM does--which means reliability and user experience. I do plenty of Atlonas and Key Digital with Savant and we will be doing a lot more DM with Savant in the future.

I just finished a small commercial system with 2 TVs and a Gefen HDMI matrix that had a lot of conditionals--essentially, divide and combine, with and without audio. I'd wager that the system might not even be possible to be done in C4 but even so I doubt it could be programmed in 2 hours.

Alan,
Not sure where you are getting the cheaper than C4 numbers. Everytime I've compared the hardware costs were in line, with C4 being slightly cheaper.

DM with Savant? That's really interesting.

If you like the Savant front end why not use the superior HDMI back end? You don't even need to write a profile. Why not take advantage of platforms when you can.

The Canadian AVAD open box list with showroom demos and the disco list with the other stuff. YMMV in the USA.

Not just a fanboy. Moreso a pissed off former Prodigy dealer that should have just done Control4 to begin with. Those systems are now so "legacy" it's hard to do anything, and I have no more software/firmware/etc support to be able to provide service to my clients. If I'd done C4, I'd be making more money on upgrades, adding features, etc. My Prodigy systems are frozen in time until they're ripped out and replaced by another control system...but at least they're reliable. Never a call back about a service/programming/system down type issue.

I think we talked about this before. Taking the best of every world would be perfect. Unfortunately, we're somewhat limited in that and have to make concessions. Crestron does HDMI distribution better than anybody. It would be nice if they'd actually brought out that Prodigy DM 6x4 piece they showed at CEDIA 2010. That would have rocked the industry.

DM-MD6x4 and 6x6 are in the full Crestron sku.Evidently, a decision was made not to enhance the Prodigy lineup since it's full Crestron only. Yes, they could be used with Savant as well. DM is DM. Integrating it seemlessly into the Savant UI is a bit more challenging and would require editing the proifles if you wanted to make use of the room box to carry control. But not if you're just using it as a HDMI extender.

Not legacy if you can code. There is NOTHING I cannot do with a PMC3 that I'm not doing with the MC3 save for DM and larger touch panels. But I can stream web pages to iPad ( don't need a bigger touch panel ) to iTouch, to PTX3 and PLX3. I have both Squeezebox and MMS working off of it and the system designs I'm typically doing are not especially different. But they are smaller systems.

Hire a programmer and those systems will stay operational and you will be able to upsell--perhaps not to DM but there are alternatives. At Prodigy price points DM --even the 6x4 is a hard sell--or has been for me. Original PLX2 is a problematic remote but PTX3 can be made to resemble the MTX3.
