I have a closet that currently has the following

2 Direct TV HD receivers
1 Direct TV analog receiver
Zantech IR Connecting Block
Octavia 4x4 HDMI Matrix switch

I also have 2 HD TV's and 1 analog tv and next to each tv I have an IR receiver. My problem is, whatever I do to 1 Direct TV receiver I do to all of them because all of them use the same IR codes. The Xantech IR block has 4 discreet channels, but the problem with that is you can only control that receiver from one IR receiver. The Octavia switch allows you to view any input on any or all of the outputs. Does anyone know if there is any way to change the IR codes on the receivers? Direct TV says no, but I'm hoping for some type of work around.

One way is to get a receiver from someone other then Direct TV, but I don't know of another vendor besides Direct TV. I had a TIVO at one time but they don't work with Direct TV anymore.

Thanks,
Gary

Like Ernie states, we need model numbers of the DirecTV receivers.

You need IR routing

Xantech IR block has
4 discreet channels,

you have an IR repeater

the problem with that is you
can only control that receiver from one IR receiver. The
Octavia switch allows you to view any input on any or
all of the outputs. Does anyone know if there is any way
to change the IR codes on the receivers? Direct TV says
no, but I'm hoping for some type of work around.

There's no changing the IR program within the device
One way is to get a receiver from someone other then Direct

Direct TV anymore.

Thanks,
Gary

And yes we need model #'s on every piece of equipment

The optimist claims the glass is half full; the pessimist claims it is half empty. An engineer observes that the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Ps, you can't fix stupid

The Directv HD dvrs now have 8 IR remote codesets available, in time the HD receivers might get an upgrade to 8 addresses, for time being they only have two. 00001 & 00002. The standard receiver also also share these addresses. So you only have two individual codesets between 3 receivers.

The SD dvr R22 has the 8 codeset also, the R15 & R16 do not. So if you were to upgrade the standard receiver to a SD dvr, you can switch it to one of the codes between 00003 to 00008, leaving the HD receivers set to codes 00001 & 00002.

If one receiver is a dvr, couldn't I use 0001 for the R15, 0002 for the H21, and 0003 for the HR20?

Thanks,
Gary

if you get an IR addressable remote/extender, you can just get some of these .

I don't think you need to change the codeset.

Try covering the emitters with black tape, so that IR doesn't leak out.

Your connecting block has four IR inputs, with 4 zone outputs. You should be able to asign for instance zone 1 IR input > to zone 1 A or B emitter output. Without any crosstalk. You just have to isolate your emitters.

I don't want to use the zones because then I have to be in front of that receiver to control the direct tv receiver. I can watch shows from the dvr in either the living room or in the bedroom, and I want to be able to control the dvr from either room.

I will have, when I'm done, 5-6 TV's and the same number of IR receivers.

are using?

Thanks for the help!

Gary

First you cover two of the receivers, while you switch the other.

Leave the R15 set to code 00001.

Switch the H21 to code 00002. Start by programming code 00002 to AV1 on the remote:

1. av1
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 0 0 0 0 2

Now slide back to the directv device and enter the menu of the receiver:

1. menu> parental, fav's, & setup> system setup> remote> receiver mode>
2. you will see either Directv or AV1/AV2, click whichever to reveal both
3. chose Av1/ AV2, the remote will stop controlling the receiver, slide back to AV1 which has code 00002
4. press DONE, exit the menu

Now with R15 & H21 covered, switch the HR20 to code 00003:

1. av2
2. press and hold MUTE & SELECT for two blinks
3. enter 0 0 0 0 3

Now switch back to the Directv device and enter the menu of the receiver:

1. menu> parental, fav's & setup> system setup> remote> advance setups>
2. press DASH key on the remote, its the key left of the zero key.
3. click on the Receiver #, to reveal a drop down menu, scroll to Receiver 3, thats if you are actually using code 00003 for the HR20 receiver, if not then it would be on of the following:

Receiver 3- 00003 on the remote
Receiver 4- 00004 on the remote
Receiver 5- 00005 on the remote
Receiver 6- 00006 on the remote
Receiver 7- 00007 on the remote
Receiver 8- 00008 on the remote

4. click on continue, the remote will no longer control the receiver, slide to AV2 on the remote which should have the code that matches Receiver # you picked in step two above

5. done and exit the menu

Then you need to arrange for a integrator to come out there and get you set up with some IR routing.

Is there any CI's on RC from Reno?

We're in Vegas and get up to Tahoe frequently for work but I don't think he'll agree with the rate for this type of service call :-) OP send me a PM if you want a referral up there. There is a firm I use to handle the little stuff.

kevin I can't believe I clicked on that link, waited for what seemed like an eternity for it to load and only to find it was an emitter cover :-)
