And I thought $1.74/gal was the low, when I filled up. Your gas prices there are low.

I use gas buddy app on my phone. $1.43 was the lowest price in town and it so happens it's on my daily route. Costco about a mile down the road was the same.
All others are about 15-20 cents higher.

The $1.74 is near my house and usually isone of the less expensive in the are, most are 10-15 cents higher. CT is also 20+ cents higher. NM must have lower gas prices or gas taxes than the northeast.

If anyone can rewire the pump to choose your own price, I am positive it is you.

Because California always has special gas pricing.
I always love their Bullshite excuses too. Only in California do we have these refineries that always seem to be needing upgrades and repairs.

On my way to Phoenix to visit my daughter I have experienced more than a $2.00 difference from Blythe (Ca) to Quartzite (Az) just by crossing an imaginary line on the pavement.

Paul, what Octane do you put in your van?

I see http://www.santabarbaragasprices.com/ shows $2.48 as cheapest.

Looks like that Valero not too far from your house is $2.50 for regular: [Link: google.com]

Also, remember that your regular is 87, where as my is only 86 due to altitude.
Not saying that makes a whole lot of difference...

I just use regular in the van, but our other two vehicles require premium.  I usually fill up at a Shell right near the house and I think regular there is $2.65.

Yesterday I had to fill up in Montecito where it was $3.09... gas station a couple blocks away was $3.29 for regular.

Gas tends to be really expensive at stations near the university.  I just checked the website you used and regular there is $4.79 gal and premium $4.99!
