I like the minilites, but still prefer wires on these cars.

Tinkertoys. Get em right and they are a blast to drive.

My last Leyland toy was a 70 Triumph TR6 that had a ground up restoration. Traded a family room theater for it.

Me, I'm moving the Vette out in the spring, and am looking for a shoebox Chevy.

Another thing that steered me towards the MGB is the size. I just don't have a lot. The stupid town nixed our shed, and we have a one car garage that is full. I had to clean it out in the cold yesterday. I was not expecting the car to be delivered so soon. Anything bigger would be an issue with the space we have.

I'll be on the lookout for a "goldenzrule" handle over at the mgb forum at www.mgexp.com. I couldn't own my mg without the help of the folks on that site.
I'm Not an engineer, but I play one on TV.
My handle is Tweety but I have nothing to do with the organization of similar name. I just had a really big head as a child so folks called me tweety bird.

Back in the late seventies up to the mid eighties, my daily driver was a 71 MGBGT. A client turned me onto tricking it out a little. Put on side-draft Weber, ported and polished the head, added a racing header and flow through exhuast, slightly chunkier cam. Still was pretty slow, but sounded great and was a blast to drive.

Beware of the electrical system and fuel pump though!!! I kept a big wrench under the seat to occassionally beat on the fuel pump when it locked up. Eventually went to an electric fuel pump.

Always got compliments. Wish I still had it. there are damn few of them left.

Enjoy the coupe!

I actually saw a GT driving by me the other day. As much as I like them, I wanted to go with a drop time this time. My first convertible actually.

I'm filling my truck at Sam's Club for $1.43/gal.
I don't remember last time prices were this low.
20oz bottled water is more.
That's crazy.

And I thought $1.74/gal was the low, when I filled up. Your gas prices there are low.

Getting in is fun. Once in its not too bad. The door is right on top of you, but otherwise not terrible. It has a surprising amount of legroom.

Mike, just a few observations, your car's front grille is called a "fishmouth" and was only made 2 years. The turn signal lenses on the front are on backwards. If you post pictures on MGExperience, the Stanleys will eat you alive on that. It is the "site" joke. The door cap rails on your car are from a MkI car and are worth taking off and selling to a Mk I owner because good ones are rare for them. The flatter door caps are correct for your car and plentiful at good prices from members of the MGE and Ebay.

DO NOT use generic brake fluid in the brakes or clutch systems. Use Castrol LMA only. The rubber compounds are different in the US versus the UK. And the US fluid will eat the seals. Also the color codes for the wiring harness is different than US. BROWN is HOT. So don't wire in a radio or whatever without getting a Haynes or factory manual with a wiring color code chart.

Wire wheels are pretty but they suck when worn. The hubs and splines will wear if not tightened properly and are expensive to replace. I always changed wires with solid wheels. Even new wires and hubs can make little clunking noises on acceleration and stopping.
If you Paypal me $5 for shipping, I will send you a Haynes workshop manual for free. Private message me for details.

I have owned 20 or more MGBs over the last 45 years and they can be fun and reliable if serviced and maintained properly.

If you click on the url of one of my pictures, it will take you to my photo bucket with pictures of the MGB I owned for 32 years. Sold it in 2012 to Grand Prix Cafe. They have it for sale now at almost what they gave me for it.

They can get on the previous owner :-D

I have a lot to go through. She is ok, but not as nice as the photos would have you think. Overall it is in better shape than the local cars I saw, but not perfect.

My favorite toy was a 1970 Porsche 914.

I too had a MGB. Had to damn near put the top down in order to get in. MGB's were not designed for guys over 6' tall...

Pretty much the same with the Triumph I had.

Best car I ever had?

32 Ford 5 window coupe, 289, 4 speed. Ugly, loud, and fun. Bought in 1966 for $500.00... Traded it in for a 1963 Ford Sedan with a 427, 4 speed. Sick fast.

The good? I get a strong feeling of accomplishment when I get myself into the car.

Yeah in retrospect, I should have got a convertable, but in Seattle it rains a lot. I had a nice sunroof installed. I loved the exhaust note from that car, especially after taking of the SU carbs and going to the Weber, and upgraded exhaust system.

I'm glad (and impressed) you found that one. You just dont see any of them on the road anymore, and they USED to be popular.

What prompted me to get one, was my buddy and I were on a street corner one day (in the summer) and a beautiful MG convertable went by... with three beautiful girls went by... and my friend commented "Wow, now there is a bucket of fun!"... That was it, I got my MG a couple of months later!!!!

Now I know you are a liar. No way you can fit 3 people in one of these. 2 is cutting it close :-D
