Got up extra early this morning. Had breakfast downtown with my son at the Pike Place Market. Laughed our asses off about a recent kyak excursion that went downhill. Never again (for me)! Got him a new backpack because his old one stinks like old swampwater...
His friends dad gave my son a mint condition Thorens TD 160 turntable the other day, so I'll update the phono cartridge (with a nice Grado) and get it all tweaked into shape for him.

yesterday the pool builder cleaned the pool that we're installing and I've been filling it back up overnight.
It looks so nice and clean that I want to jump in, but the 50-something water temperature is enough of a deterrent for me that I won't.
My 10 year old daughter on the other hand couldn't care less.

I'm envious! Good for you!

I think kids are impervious to cold water! When I was a teen, my brother and I could go down to the Green river early in the morning and stand in the river for hours (no waders) and fish our brains out. It was cold as hell, but we didn't seem to care. Couldn't do that today!

How are you heating the pool? Gas?

In our retail days we sold used gear. A Thorens in good shape would get us $139-189 with cartridge included and a 1 year warranty.

Do an ebay search for Thorens today... I have seen them $1500 and up! Should have saved all those used TTs and Pioneer receivers for 20 years and retired off the ebay sales!!
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Where he lives mother nature does that, soon he will be figuring out how to cool it down so its enjoyable in the summer time.

Had a friend back in the day (80's) that made a very large grid of black PVC pipe and a pump that moved the pool water through it.

Fairly effective solar pool heater before "solar" was the new scam, I mean fashionable.

Yeah, I did a search for the heck of it, yesterday... say some going for up to 1700$$$

I told my son. He was blown away! He figured it was worth 50$$$ or so! I used to sell them new, back in the day... If I recall they were like 279$ (less cartridge), which was a fair amount of change back then. Beautiful tables though-great suspension & tonearmn. Nice sound! Now, I gotta find a nice receiver with a phono preamp, that wont break the bank. I gave my old system to his GF...

I have apparently found my calling.

Built another handicap ramp today.

I'm here to tell you, those 4x8 sheets of treated 3/4" plywood are heavy.

Stanley, at midnight PT you can post that you didn't get a thread locked today, but be careful, you still have a few hours.

Today was cake.

First, I programmed a DirecTV remote for a guy who could not do it himself. I also told him his plasma is dying and he needs to have the power supply fixed. Collected a check from him.

Then I ate.

Then I bypassed a Speakercraft resistor based VC that nearly burned a guy's house down, and programmed his MX950 to operate zone 2 volume. Collected a check from him.

Then I reprogrammed an Intellicontrol due to a change from motorola POS cable box to tivo. I had to also connect a new audio cable. The old box was connected with digital coax. Tivo only has Toslink. Cable guy was half smart, and turned the AVR around and plugged the digital cable into an analog input....well half of it anyway. He said that was the only way he could get audio to work. Sweet. Collected a check.

Went to a project we are working on indefinitely it seems. I plugged in the Xbox One on wednesday and left the kids to set it up. Got a panic text today that it quit working shortly after I left and it needs to be working by tomorrow for a party. I roll out there, and the Bose (yeah...I know) system is going bonkers on the Xbox HDMI input. The message flashes on the screen every 15 seconds or so that the acoustimass module is unplugged or something. Discovered that you cannot feed 7.1 uncompressed audio from xbox one into Bose. No likey. Switched it to bitstream and bailed.

Easy day. Yesterday, not so much. We got a 30 yd. dumpster delivered to the shop. It is nearly half full with junk as we prepare to move to the new showroom/office later this year. I found no less than 5 Escient pieces. Trashed! I think I tossed 10 Phast controllers away.....a couple Phast amps, and about 100 assorted keypads, light switches and other crap. A plethora of DVD players, VCRs, old DirecTV hardware.....my boss has been there since '89. It is also their home. So you can imagine the amount of junk that has accumulated in that time.

There is some pretty cool old junk though. I found a manual Intellicontroller programmer. I think it works thusly: you press the button you want to program a macro on, and then fire all the IR commands into it in the proper sequence with the proper delays, and then press the save button. How badass is that? I found a Yamaha media streaming system with a server and 2 clients. Intact. Also the Sony MDX (?) system is there. I think we have 3 or 4 Sony 777 DVD changers NIB.

There is a whole shelf of old Elan/Square D stuff NIB. A graveyard of C4 HTC and Media Controllers and Mini Touchscreens. Do you need any Middle Atlantic AFACEs for old gear? I probably have 2 of each! There is probably 100 faces there. Mostly old cable and satellite boxes. Lots of old receivers, preamps, DVD players, and VCRs as well.

Think I'll take it for a spin around the block... I mean, what could go wrong?!
