Hi,

I have an existing Xantech IR repeater setup to control components inside a cabinet. (789-44 connecting block, and 490-00 IR Receiver, and IR emitters)

I would like to somehow connect the IR output on a Russound A-Bus system to the Xantech so that the A-Bus can control all of the same components.

I realize I could stick a second emitter onto every component, but that is really kind of ugly and sloppy looking.

Any ideas?

Iv been sticking the 2nd emitter on the device - Sucks. Im sure you can pass it into a xantec connecting block or somthing. - Just like using mulitiple EYES.

I am not familiar with Russound, but I have done this with other IR products. Connect the IR & ground from the Russound to the IR & ground of the 789-44. DO NOT CONNECT power from one to the other.

Just use a mini rca ( mono ) out of the IRB on the A-Bus into the xantech connecting block. do not connect power to the xantech.

I cut a mono mini patch cable in half... The plug went to the Russound IR Emitter Out, and the bare wires I attached to the 789-44 IR and Ground.

I couldn't get it to work.

I was wondering if it's a compatible signal...

I'm in no way an expert on this, but ...
I have been able to connect the IR out of an Elan system to a Xantech block.
I tried it first with the 789-44, but it was unreliable.
I'm now using a 791-44 amplified block instead of the 789 and it works much better. I'm guessing the signal comming out of the Russound system isn't strong enough to drive all the emitters connected to the 789-44 without being amplified.

I actualy did the same thing with my elan system. Only I was not smart enough to check with Elan and Xantech first. I used a mono mini and blew the all out on my 630. Very important to connect to the Sig & Grnd only. What Elan told me was they thought that I backfed the 12V back to the Elan. Bad news is I am not a dealer and although I can live without 1 all out port, I am scared to find out what the thing will cost to fix. I dont even know who to ask.

You really have to be carefull pluging the mono mini plung into equipment when your not sure or the configurations.

David-
You need to do it the opposite way. If you arent using all ports of the a-bus, you can hook up the zantech dinky link to the input of the Russound. If you are usung them all, parallel the dinky link to one of the ports. In the Russound info, they give you a pin-out. Use only the +12v, the ground and the IR. The 12 volts should be sufficient to power two IR receivers unless they are used at the same time. What are the odds?

Okay, maybe you guys have not had this problem, but I bought an Xanatech IR repeater recently. HEre are the issues I uncoverd. The outputs from the Xanatech IR are Mono, the 5mm plug into it is STEREO.. This means there is a ground wire, which can be very dangerous. The screw terminals are used for mono connections (gnd, shield). They dont tell you that. You have to use XANATECH IR blaster into the 5mm input plug. If you dont you could most definitely start a fire because you are grounding out the power supply by connecting a mono input.

hope this helps.
