Downloaded and installed the new version. Vista protection mode now asks me if I want to run the software everytime I try to load the program. This did not occur in the previous version. Also, the emulator is still quite small compared to running it through Windows XP. The aspect ratio is correct - just like it was with the previous version of PEP under Vista. Under Windows XP (@ 1440x900), the emulator size was ok but the aspect ratio was messed up - too wide. My screen resolution is 1440x900. Have not received my TSU9600 and serial extender yet, so I cannot comment on connectivity.

Definitely. There's heaps you can do with ProntoScript even if you don't have an extender. These are some of the things that we have been asking for over the years. I'm sure people can add to this list: - remember on/off and other states - variables - fancy animations - pop up menus - toggle between receiver audio and TV audio without having to have multiple copies of devices - change the codes transmited each time you press a button and even change the label on the button accordingly - hide buttons depending on other conditions That looks like neat stuff to "play with". Thanks Peter.

Jog wheel control is not in this public release but I for one have requested 2 features as high priority.
1. Downloadable images (don't have to be local to config file). 2. Jog wheel support.
(...) Lyndel Yessssssss! I want that too. Thanks Lyndel. BTW, I may have asked you already but why the heck are they not giving us control over the Jog Wheel? I can think of all sorts of usage for that hard "button" doing nothing. What's the hold up?

The fact that the Jog Wheel is a single item but has 2 action lists is my first suspicion. Also, that more than likely the Jog wheel is NOT capable of executing actions but rather, it is only capable of providing notifications about user jogged left/right.
For those who might be interested, the Jog wheel is activated by optical LED sensors and not by the normal carbon rubber element associated with a firm/hard key.

If I follow you though, we would not be able to use the jog wheel like any button which can generate Interrupt-Request type of info (actions) and we would be stuck writing some kind of loop that would continuously read the jog left/right info? That wouldn't be so good. Unless Philips programmers could write code (like an API) to give us the behavior that we want for the jog wheel (like any other button). If they only provide jog left/right info however, we would not get the jog speed info which could be use to generate jog-speed-dependent actions. I guess we need both type of info, just in case. This work to be done is potentially what is causing the delay in giving us access to the jog wheel. (which was your point I gather) Now, let me ask, hasn't Philips done all that work already to use the jog wheel with the Escient servers?

Probably so, but exposing in this version of the editor might have proved very difficult.

It should also be understood that Philips is providing support and encouragement to many suppliers of music and video servers and other devices to develop ProntoScript interfaces to their devices. In doing so, they are (naturally) discovering some issues with the capabilities provided with ProntoScript, and as a result are making non-compatible changes to the functionality. Thus, like any software prvider, they will not document and publish some of the functionality until they are satisified they have it right.

Where is the ProntoScript Reference or Developer's Guide? I'd like to have Imerge/XiVa (or Lutron, or Escient) device source as an example, in this case Reference is not necessary :)

You won't be getting the Escient source because Image Download and Jog Wheel Notification is not something they've exposed yet in a public API.

Is the manual/access for ProntoScript going to be restricted to professional installers (i.e., those with incorporated businesses?) I'm not interested in the external modules, just controlling the behavior on the handheld. It would be very disappointing for those of us who have made a living doing programming for many years if ProntoScript is getting restricted distribution.
Anyone know for sure?

Are there ANY scripts available for download, or ANY demo scripts we can use to give us an idea of how it looks like.
I'd love to give it a try - but so far - no doc and no example scripts either...

Do you mean these: [Link: pronto.philips.com]First, click on downloads on the left of the screen (after login of course). Click on the TSU9600 on the right of each entries for downloading. I haven't tried any myself, I just found out where they were. SYL20
