I have had my expensive TV remote for a few years now and has been working great until recently.

A couple of buttons barely works anymore.
You have to really push hard and longer and maybe it will work.

I have opened it up and cleaned the PC board pads and button pads with Acetone but it did not help.

I have tried using the 'Rear window defrost repair kit' before on another remote and it didn't seem to work well.

This remote was not cheap so I wouldn't mind paying the $25 or so to get the 'Remote repair kit'.

Does it work better then the Window repair kit?

Thanks,
Debbie

You DON'T want to use acetone. Use denatured alcohol. Also, if soda was spilled on it or worked its way in, acetone won't necessarily remove it. If the contaminant is water-soluble, you need a water-based cleaner. If it's oil-based, some other cleaner is needed, but not acetone.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

OK, thanks for the update on that.

I think I have some denatured alcohol

Oh Wow, I cannot believe it.

I totally took the remote apart and cleaned every surface along with the PC board pads and button pads 3 times with the denatured alcohol.

It is like a new remote.
All the button are working great, even the #7 and #2 which would not work at all.

Thanks for your help.
Saved me a $300 remote.

Debbie

If the conductive pads are in any way worn, you may find that the problem re-occurs in less time than it took the first time. At which time, the defogger kit might be a suggestion.

Depending on the brand, a replacement button mat may be available. I have gotten some from Harmony in the past.

From prior posts, it's an MX-900. Button pads do exist, but I doubt URC would sell one to an end-user... probably have to send it in.
