Greg,

What has improved? Are you saying it still happens but not quite as frequently?

Yes. It still happens but not as frequently as before. As Greg mentioned their should be a new beta release shortly which we hope will solve the problem.

How does one go about obtaining this elusive beta software? Or are there only an elite few that are deemed worthy of this honor? As the starter of this thread, I would have thought it would place me relatively high on the list. :)

Elite few. How "elite" we are though is pure subjective! ;-)

Yes, there are still problems, but there are much more infrequent, but still not to the standard that this remote should have.

I believe all 3 were updated since I have the following:
MX Editor Version 1.10.086
Firmware 1.40
IR DB 1.76

I had thought that the non-beta update last week also had the 1.41 firmware, but I didn't check before I updated it a half hour ago or so.

The beta release update today is 1.10.091b for the Editor. The rest is the same as the regular release. I would think that a newer firmware version is still required for the problems we are encountering.

I'm confused. They updated the firmware without fixing the problem? Why would they do that? What other issues were fixed or features added?

Sometimes they fix little things, improve code execution, etc. Many times it is things we never know about that they fix. There may be a few fixes in the new f/w that were worth fixing even thought they haven't completed the issue you're concerned with. Nothing wrong with taking small steps when making improvements to s/w or f/w.

What Eric said.......

The remote HAS been improved, but is not fully there. I'd rather have them put out something that makes it a fair bit better in the interim, than wait until every last item has been taken care of.

At least my MX-900 is usable at this point and a lot less frustrating.

I've been observing this thread from a distance.

Now, if I have had zero problems with the 900s I have sold, am I going to start having problems?

Will I have fewer problems if I stick to the older software and not update at all?
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

I live-updated to the new software/firmware (note the new MX-900/950/1000 manual is included in the update). I then tried to get my MX-900 to "skip" a command by pressing the Info button. I must have pressed it 100 times and it never failed! Before the update it would fail within about 20 presses to register at least one press. Seems like the problem is fixed for me.

What have others found? Can anyone reliably get this new firmware to fail? If so, how?

I was able to get it to fail on the first button press after I first downloaded it. Then it worked for about the next 80 presses or so before it failed again.

The latest beta download 1.10.091b seems to have increased the button failure rate for me. It still seems to be quite random and inconsistent across the board.

There's still more work to be done IMHO.

The button failure rate for me has become better and worse. I now do not have specific buttons that fail on a regular basis, but notice that ALL of the buttons will fail intermittently.

It seems that if I leave the remote for a short period of time, it takes a button push to wake it up. The problem is that this period of time varies from about 30 seconds to 2 or 3 minutes. I even have the backlight switch needing a second push about every 40 times or so.

If I am using the remote almost continually, without any 30 second or longer pauses, it works at about 98% button success rate.

Close, but no cigar, as they say.
