MSC-400 for IR only control

I see that the MSC-400 has a IR input which it blasts out on all ports. Is there any way to do any routing with the IR at all, like some of the Xantech IR routers?

The RT8 for example has one IR in, and you can control which port to send the output to. One negative with this is that the programming is involved since a route has to be established per IR command and there is no concept of device level routes.

Perhaps another way to ask the question - how do you make the MSC-400 work with IR only remotes? Do they have pure IR Triggers?

Well the MSC is designed to be used with URCs remotes. If you have an IR remote, just learn the commands into your 900/950/3000 and then toss that original remote in a drawer :)

And the TX-1000.

The question I had was if it was possible to route an incoming IR signal on the MSC-400 to one or more specific (RS232/IR) ports.

An example application:
Multiple centralized jukebox devices of the same kind that are controlled from different rooms via keypads or IR only remotes with room IR receivers. I need IR routing here since I don't want all jukeboxes to turn on when one is accessed.

The MSC-400 doesn't work as an IR router. You can trigger macros from the RF remote or by the state of video sensors, voltage sensors, relays, or RS232 input. While the MSC-400 has an IR port, that port is there only for learning IR commands.

Triggering the MSC-400 via the rear panel IR port is not possible at this time. It is a popular feature request and we are actively researching the best way to implement it. For now, any routing to a specific IR output must be done via RF.

You cannot trigger a macro via an RS-232 command, however, you could trigger the macro via a learned IR command.

The smart macro trigger you program your client's MX-950 could be taught to some IR keypads, but might be problematic with others. Simply set your MX-950 to IR output (make sure the RFID is set correctly) and try teaching to your keypad. Then try it via the IR input of the MSC-400. Don't try to power the keypad from the 5v on the MSC-400, power it separately.

And, yes, you can trigger a macro via a voltage sensor into any of the six sensor inputs. The macro can be triggered when the voltage is on, another macro can be triggered when the voltage is off. If you needed it, you could program another macro that is triggered whenever the voltage goes on or off. Of course you would need an IR to relay device such as Xantech's to send the voltage based on an IR command from the keypad.

Best Regards,

-Eric

Eric

Im sure i will survive in the mean time. But i have 2 Jobs comming up in March and it would be nice to use the MSC-400 with the IR Input for the Keypads. I dont really want to have to use RTI or AMX if i can get away with it

So, does it work or doesn't it? I am planning on using a Sonance K2 keypad to trigger the MSC-400 macros via IR commands learned from the MX-950 and input into the MSC-400's IR in. Does anyone know if this will work?

Just another vote for seeing IR triggers of MSC-400 stored macros...this would be a very useful function for us.

There is an IR sensor on the front. Seems like this could be made to work with a firmware update.

Anyone know if this capability has been established yet?
